This is our first trip ever to WDW, we arrive on Saturday 6th January which is in the middle of some marathon I hear. So, Sunday Morning which park do you recommend we visit first up. Which is also Marathon day. I have heard things like stay away from MK on every Sundays. So where do you think our first park should be??? DH is not good with crowds at all!!!

I always look at what Tour Guide Mike and the Unofficial Guide list as their best and worst parks for a particular date and make my choice off that.

I can't imagine not starting my first trip to WDW at the Magic Kingdom no matter what smiling Mike says.

If you have kids, don't go to MK first. Save that one for after EPCOT, MGM, and AK.

On our arrival day, we usually just go to DTD or Boardwalk for relaxation. But we drive, so we don't get in until sometime around 4 or 5 in the afternoon.

Yes, we have three kids DD14, DS12, DD9.
Maybe we should start at the not so popular and work our way to the best then we won't be disappointed with any of them??? What ever parkd they may be. What do people think, keep them suggestion coming.

Just in case this has any influence on the situation, I'm 17 years old, and AS SOON as I get to the resort that I'm staying at, I have to go to Magic Kingdom as soon as possible. I don't want to start a debate, but in my opinion it is the park that best conveys the Disney feel. The "most magical" if you will. I would definately go there first. And another thing, I went January 06 during the marathon, and the crowds weren't bad at all, and as you can see from my sig, I am a line hater, haha.

EDIT: I have a sentimental attraction to Disney World, thats another reason why I like Magic Kingdom so much. Maybe your kids would like MGM better. AHH, so many options! haha

I would have to say to start your first trip at Magic Kingdom. When you thin of disney world you immediately think of cinderellas castle and being magic kingdom. I say that you must go to Magic Kingdom on your first day of your first trip.

My thoughts exactly :thumbsup2

I'm not good with crowds either and I'll be going to disney for the first time this dec. After lots of research for my trip, I would go to Epcot first, then AK, then MGM and finally MK. The reason for this is that Epcot and AK are more educational than the other two which have more entertainment. If you have kids especially, going to mk last would be best. If they do it first, they'll expect the same from the other parks and they'll be dissapointed since MK is the park geared toward children the most.

the day that we arrive we go to animal kingdom, our next FULL day is always magic kingdom. waking up in the morning, getting there for the rope drop... it's perfect!!! :goodvibes

I agree with pp, about seeing what parks are less busy on certain days.

I've done MK on the weekends, and now avoid it. But that's just me.

You are going to get many opinions on the subject.

It's really up too you what you want to do when you get there. If we take a flight the night before we will just go to one of the parks first, most likely Epcot, or MGM. I think it's just me but I like to save the best for last. If we take an early morning flight and get to the hotel around 1pm we will usuallly just go to Downtown Disney to get some shopping done then have a nice dinner. Our last trip was in Dec 05 and the first park we went to was Epcot, stayed the whole day and even watched illuminations. When we go to the parks we stay all day from when they open to closing time, even watch the parades too. That way we can get done as much as possible. I hope you have trying to make your mind up about which one to go to. Everybody has there certein choice of which park they would like to go to first. I've always made the MK my first park, but now that I've been there so many times(NOT THAT IT GETS BORING) I try to go somewhere else first. But really nothing tells you that you have arrived at the best place on earth like walking up and seeing the Main Street Train Station and walking underneath and finally seeing Cinderella Castle. Then you say to yourself "I have arrived"

James :thumbsup2

That is a really difficult call. We prefer to go to MK first but this year we will be doing AK first and then Epcot and then MK for MVMCP on our 3rd day. But it isn't our first trip.

I would say if you have park hoppers then go see the MK and then hop over to another park. If not, do Epcot first and then MK the next day :thumbsup2

We have always started at MK,however this year we will be arriving :sad2: late so we are going to start at Epcot and then the first full day will be at MK. We like Mk so much we are going to try and go three days. :cheer2:

I always think about waiting until my first full day at the world to go to Magic Kingdom. It really is nice having the little ceremony to initiate your day at the kingdom.

I think alot depends on which resort you are staying at. Transportation gets rather bogged down early in the morning during the marathon (we've been there for it twice) so if you are within easy distance of one of the parks without taking a long bus ride, that's the one you might want to chose! For example, we stayed at Beach Club Villas so we could just walk to Epcot or MGM.

Keep in mind that things are a bit more crowded than normal in January/February because of the marathon folks - but it is not unbearable!

Whichever park you chose, just relax and go with the flow and you'll have a great day.

We will be driving down on saturday before halloween and plan on just relaxing at FW and then going over to DTD or the boardwalk for shopping. Because it is our first visit to WDW we want to spend the first full day in MK. Possibly our staying at the campground might be influencing this because we have to Popup then pick up our golfcart. Then the fun begins.

I always found MK to be very crowded on a Sunday. If you are going to be there early then I would go to MK in the morning, but if not I would say do Epcot, always found Epcot to be a nice park for Sunday!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think we will go to Epcot first up, there are no EMH there for that day. And then we can stay and finish the first night off with Illuminations. So is there somewhere nice for dinner that we could watch them from, or best to have dinner earlier and just watch them from outside somewhere?? Thanks to everyone for there help here.!!
Its great to have so any wonderful tips.

I can help with this one! The hands-down best place to eat in Epcot is Canada - Le Cellier. And you have enough time that you might can book it. We are going Jan. 13 - 19 and I have booked all our ADRs. We got every place we asked for. Canada is also a good location watch Illuminations and it is the last stop at the showcase which can help you get out quicker. :cool1:
