I messed up. I waited too long and let an excellent rate for the Poly slip away. Our travel dates are the last week of Feb, which is my daughters birthday and 2 weeks before my 30th :crazy2:

I wanted to make this a special visit by going deluxe. Poly has been a dream of mine since I was a little one but there are No discounted rooms left. We usually stay in mods and it is just me and my soon to be 4 year old. Considering Wilderness Lodge looks like the only deluxe available that week, I'm still shy to pull the trigger. Anyone want to give me the punch I need?

Is it WL full price? If so, I probably can't offer that punch. I don't do full price.

The WL is amazing and our favorite resort though.

For just two, I'd honestly go value, but that's me. Last time I did deluxe with only DD and me, we both felt like it was a waste of money. We did Pop, and it was great for us! We liked that the bathroom had a curtain (BWI it's kind of open, didn't like that), and the beds were super comfortable. For just the two of us, we're going back again for the start of her spring break (then moving to AKV Kidani where we rented from an owner super cheap for a 1br 2bathroom villa as DH is joining us then, so we'll have lots of space and it's still less $ than our last year spring break at BWI).

No way would I ever pay full price though. Even with the Disney discount stacked with Orbitz, BWI was not worth it last time. For just the 2 of us, we didn't need the larger room, and it was a waste of money.

WL is beautiful, but is undergoing construction, so I personally wouldn't stay there right now. Have you looked into the Poly studios? Or the EP resorts? AKL is also really lovely, but remote from the parks other than AK. If nothing else is available, maybe a Royal Room at POR?

AKL tends to be a little less than the rest so that might be a possibility or you might look into Dolphin or Swan, a little less expensive but still on property with all the perks. If you do that, just make sure you factor in the resort fees and parking fees if you are driving, they can push it into the AKL range. Also, did you try Obitz? Sometimes they show openings at discounts you can't find on the Disney site.

For the last week of Feb (21-28) I found the early 2016 offer forYacht club Club level at $571 per night, WL woods view at $363 per night and the AKL savannah view $451 per night. AKL is also available for only $506 per night!

My first choice would be the AKL CL. It has a similar atmosphere to the Poly, IMO. Very lush and tropical. Plus, that is a very low increase for a CL room (only $55 more per night!)

The pool area is lovely, the food options are great! There is a bus ride everywhere, but the resort is so amazing that it is worth the extra 5 - 10 minutes to get to the MK. It is not long at all to Epcot, DHS or the AK!

I wouldn't wait long to book - there isn't much left with availability in deluxe.

Good luck!

Just checked the Swan/Dolphin. You can get a Dolphin room for feb 21-28 for $337 per night with a AAA rate. You need to add the resort fee and parking fee (if you have a car). Resort fee is about $25 per night and the parking fee is somewhere around $17 per night, I think. (Sorry, I never bring a car to WDW and have lost track of the parking rate exactly). I believe that if you add about $45 to the above rate you would be close.

If you are a teacher, nurse or military you qualify for the low rate of $337 as well. (about $385 plus taxes).

If you don't have a car you will need to factor in airport transfer costs, but you can remove the daily parking fee).

Wow, you are looking into a busy week!

Good luck!

Unless you are going to be spending a reasonable amount of time at the resort I likely wouldn't pay the extra for the two of you. It's a beautiful resort but the transportation isn't that much better than moderates and the rooms are only slightly bigger. If you are going to be spending time at the resort it's a great place for a 4 year old. My son who is 4 loved the swimming structure and slides were the perfect size for him.

I understand the draw of staying at the Poly with it being so close to MK but honestly, having stayed at Deluxe and Moderates....I now have a hard time justifying the price for Deluxe. I stayed at BWI and it was nice. The walk or boat to Epcot and HS can be beat but the resort/room itself?.....wasn't that much better than POFQ, which is our current fave. My son is 7 and he doesn't know the difference between the mod and the deluxe. He just likes a good arcade and a cool pool when we aren't at the parks. We also have always had great luck with Dis transportation so taking a bus to a park is really no big deal.

I say hold off on Deluxe until you can get the Poly at a good rate if that is your dream. Book a princess room at POR for the two of you for your Feb trip, your daughter will love it!

Have you considered looking into renting DVC points to stay at one of the deluxe DVC resorts? There may be some availability at one or two DVC resorts for that week and a studio villa would cost less than a room at a deluxe resort.

And I'll echo the sentiment that you probably do not want to stay at WL during construction.

Thanks for all the feed back. I'm checking on AKL now and into the Royal rooms at POR. I've checked the Davids and the DVC store and am waiting to hear back as well.

Luckily, I booked her BBB appointment a few months ago, so I've got something under control.

I ended up with a great rate a POR for the last week of Feb with Orbitz. I am thinking that a lot of people are booking in anticipation of a 24 hour leap day. It could go either way at this point. Either people will book once it is announced that there will be at 24 hour day or people might drop their current reservations if there is not one.

I always struggle with going back and forth from the Beach Club or the Poly. We are DVC members at the Poly, but that sand bottom pool at the BC is amazing for my two year-old son. That being said, here is a few cool things about the Poly:

1. You can get Dole Whips right in the resort!
2. The water pageant can be seen from the pool.
3. Two stops on the monorail and you are at Magic Kingdom.
4. Ohana character breakfast is a lot of fun for the kids....ok ok...I love it too.
5. Lastly and worth mentioning again, you can get Dole Whips right in the resort!!

Regardless of where you stay, I hope you guys have a magical trip! :)

So, DVC is out at this point and the Poly only has a standard room at rack rate. WL is at $300 a night (courtyard view) and POR RR are at $200.

I would go with POR RR. I think your 4 year old will love it! I certainly wouldn't pay full price for the Poly standard. I love the Poly, but when they converted most to DVC, they converted all of the good buildings IMO. The rest of the non-DVC buildings have a lot of non-balcony rooms. Make sure if you ever stay there to either request a patio or a full balcony. Just my two cents--hope you both have great birthdays!!! The important thing is your time together.

I agree with everything here about AKL! Beautiful resort with good transportation :thumbsup2.

Orbitz may have availability and you can get 15% off with promo code.

I agree, check out Orbitz as they sometimes have availability when Disney does not (with a little extra savings ;)).
