We have a friend who has offered us the use of his RV, if we want it, for our Nov/Dec trip.

Has anyone camped at Ft. Wilderness during the late fall/winter months? Are they even open? Were all the amenities at the campground open (petting zoo, barbecue, movies, etc.)?

How was the weather? We have reservations at SOG, but we thought it might be fun to drive out there in the RV - I know my kids would have much more fun in an RV than strapped in the van.

You probably already know this, but just in case you didn't, I just wanted to mention if you don't get many answers here that you might want to also post this over at the "Camping at WDW" boards to get lots of replies from the WDW camping people (RVers/Cabins/Tent goers at FW) :sunny: : Link:

I didn't know there was a board for campers - thanks for the link!

There are literally hundreds of RV's at FW year around and lot of these are Bus type up to a million $. There are a lot who come and stay the month of Dec. We were there last year in Dec. and this year in June. We have stayed at all the hotels and Cabins at FW, but feel we have more Acomadations with our RV. I think your kids will enjoy FW more than the hotel, as ours seem to like to have more freedom at FW with more outdoors activities.

Ft Wilderness is like our second home! You and your family will LOVE it! Mine do!
If you haven't RV'd before this is the perfect place to start. Roughing it- but not too rough! LOL
The weather is perfect all year and everything is open. Do it and have a blast!

They would probably have a great time at FW! They still need to be strapped into the RV for travel though.

Fort Wilderness is Wonderfull. If you decide to go you should make your reservation as soon as possible. We are going the first week in December.

Really? I thought they would be able to ride in an RV without carseats. Well maybe we will take a trailer instead.

Our friend wasn't just outright loaning the RV to us - we were going to rent it. But we could also rent a trailer from the post MWR office for $60-$75 per night.

The main attraction of the RV was ease of travel with the kids. But if they have to have carseats in that too, we might as well go with trailer so we could have our own car for short trips once the trailer is parked.

We also liked the idea of bringing our dog - but I have read conflicting things about that. Can we bring the dog, even though we would have to leave her in the trailer when we are at the parks?

Yes, you can bring dogs. We always bring ours. They have pet walk areas.

We've camped at several different times of the year, and honestly the best trips were in November and January. The weather was great, if a touch chilly for we natives.

So since I am an AC tent camper in the summer, I am also a small portable fan/heater camper in the winter! :teeth:
