First time at OKW

Spent the morning at the MK and came back to get out of the heat! DD is taking a nap and we are going to hit the pool in an hour or so. Plan is to try to head back to the park later and stay for Wishes, we'll see how that works out!

ERCRBC, If you get a chance, ask the CM at check-in which buildings have been refurbished and post it in your thread. Thanks a bunch and hope you had as fantastic of a time as we did at OKW in May.

I'll be happy to stop in and ask on our way to the pool!

So glad you're enjoying your trip. We've never stayed at OKW, but have Dec. 26-31 booked. After reading everyone's love of OKW and your trip report - I'm even more excited. Keep the info and pic's coming!

Quick answer to the renovated buildings:

All of the 40s and 50s are finished
36, 27, 38, 39

They are working on 30-35 right now. According to the CM at the front desk they are working their way up Peninsular Rd from there!

OMG! You are making me really miss OKW! We stayed there 2 times when traveling with family for their "cheap" 2 bedroom rooms - and we loved it.

We wouldn't hesitate to stay again, but we are trying to hit ALL the resorts before we stay at a second one twice (except for the 2 bedroom!)

We thought the 2 bedroom units were to die for! They were HUGE and lets just say my family was REALLY impressed.

Even though OKW is not our home resort, we ultimately decided to join DVC because of our stay in a 1-bedroom at OKW. You are right - the size of the rooms are magnificent! We hope to get back there soon for an upcoming visit.

If you go to Olivia's, be sure to try the pineapple-coconut bread (I forget what it's called - luau bread?). My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Old Key West is my home resort and also my favorite!. We joined DVC in 1997 and have stayed there numerous times in Studios, 2Br, and Grand Villas. It is absolutely the best vale at WDW. Now with the renovations it will be even better.

Today we are having a lot of down time since we are leaving tomorrow. We took the boat over to DTD this morning and I took some pics from the ride. DD loved the lego store and we ate at TREX, that was a lot of fun. The kids LOVED it in there.

Someone asked about the campfire, this pic you can see where the campfire is held (to the right where the white benches are), you can see the back of the sandcastle to the left. They are having another one tonight so the plan is to hang around the HH again tonight. Dinner at Olivia's, playtime in the Community Hall and smores at the campfire

OK - we just got back from OUR first stay at OKW and all we have to say it OKWOWOWOWOW

We LOVED IT!

We honestly thought that we wouldn't care for it because it is OLD Key West - with the emphasis on the OLD LOL

We were in a one bedroom as well and it is HUGE! SO NICE!

We have stayed in a 2BR at Saratoga, and studios at VWL, BLT, and AKV - Jambo. We were SO impressed by OKW!

We were in building 62 and we LOVED the water view, being close to Hospitality House and the feature pool, being close to the bus stop (as I had to run back to the room one morning - we forgot the camera!) and I made it back to the bus stop before the bus came!

If you go to plan a last minute trip - don't hesitate to stay at OKW! If you don't OWN at OKW - call at the 7 month and chances are you will get what you want - and you won't regret it.

Before staying there - I didn't think OKW's theme was all that great- but it really is one of those themes that takes you to where it intends to take you! I felt like I was in the Bahamas! (Yes I realize that OKW is in the Bahamas - but OKW really does feel island tropical!)

I could not agree more! Building 14 was right across from the HH and it was a really quick walk. We had a car and it was fabulous to be parked right outside all week. I would not hesitate to stay at OKW again! I don't think I mentioned how we chose OKW for this trip but it was not my first choice initially. We actually were planning a trip to the BCV with a 40% off code when I was able to talk DH into a BWV resale this Spring woohoo. I had only 5months once we closed, so BCV was out. We invited my inlaws with us for our first trip and chose OKW to save pts on the 2BR. Well, they backed out last minute and luckily I was able to switch to a 1BR and get an extra night. I actually am still losing 3 pts at the end of the month but now I don't even care.

I never even considered OKW given it was the "old" resort but WOW, we absolutely loved it. I would stay there anytime and be thrilled to do so.

Yesterday afternoon we headed over to SSR to check out the main pool there. DS LOVED the Donald splash pad and the little slide. He also loved the fountain spouts in the zero entry area. DD was not as impressed with the big slide there compared to the sandcastle slide but still loved the pool. She had a lot of fun at the splash pad too. If I had to choose I liked the atmosphere at the OKW pool with the music and tropical feel right next to the marina. But for little ones the SSR pool was really fun. I liked not having to clean sand off them afterward too!

Did you go inside the lighthouse. Shhhh! I think it is the best kept secret . No body seems to realize whats there unless they stay at OKW.
