First time at MK in a wheelchair- tips?

My daughter qualified for DAS under the new rules, but then last night broke her ankle. So we will now have DAS and a wheelchair (manual- not electric) for MNSSHP in a couple weeks. Would you suggest bringing her crutches and her wheelchair? I can't figure out how she will get on and off all the rides, she can't put any weight on the broken ankle. She is light enough for my husband to lift and carry for a short distance to place safely on a seat, but not long distances.

Check out the. WDW accessibility guide. It’ll tell you which rides she needs to transfer for. For the rides that require transferring, many of them you can bring a wheelchair right up to the ride, then she could either use the crutches to get in or your husband could lift her. Several have alternative procedures for those with mobility devices who can’t walk long distances- Buzz send you down a hall to the exit, Haunted Mansion takes you to the exit, Small World you go down the exit ramp, etc. Peter Pan may not be doable as there’s no alternative entrance and the belt cannot be slowed or stopped.

Can she use a cane? It will take up less space. I use an ECV (WDW rental) with no where to attach my cane. Crutches are so long and awkward. Maybe bring a few bungee cords ($ store)?

I always attach something to the basket so I know it is mine in a sea of other chairs. I also bring a few carabiners with me ($ store) to snap the backpack into the basket just to make it a bit harder for someone to "lift".

Even if she is tiny, it is a LOT of work to push a chair. Good luck!

I’d make sure her wheelchair has elevating leg rests so she can keep the fractured leg elevated. I’d also bring her crutches. She can hold them and ret the tip on her non elevated footrest. I would not recommend a cane as they aren’t safe for nonweightbearing mobility.

Bring bike gloves(padded palm area) for whoever is pushing.

You can get the wheelchair pretty close for lots of rides. There are some we never go on, so can’t speak for them.

Rent off site, Disney chairs don’t leave the parks.

When crossing the tram lines, cross at 90° to the line. First time pushing DH in his chair I didn't and small wheel got stuck in the line and nearly tipped him over!

I echo A Squared post. Also, be very aware of curbs. I had to rent an ECV on my last trip to Disneyland and never realized how many curbs there wer on Main Street and Buena Vista Street (California Adventure). I caught myself almost tipping over on those curbs, until I trained myself to really pay attention what i would normally just step down from.
