Last Thursday, we headed out early and arrived at The Fort around 11a.m. Armed with all the knowledge from the Disboards, decided to check in with the hopes that the site may be ready early.

The CM at the front desk didnt seem to know what he was doing. After walking away then coming back, he told me I was being upgraded to a preferred site at no charge. :confused3

We checked the dog into the kennel. Which, btw, I didn't know that I needed a separate reservation for the kennel. Fortunately, they had room for her. Then we hopped on the bus and headed to Downtown Disney.

I obsessively called the number to check if the site was ready every hour or so. I was worried that I would be pitching a tent in the rain. We ended up not getting the site until 5:00 p.m. :scared:

I managed to get the site set up before the rain came, which was no easy feat since it was just me and 2 kids (5 and 7).

We headed over to the campfire (forgot to take the camera). We burn...er....roasted marshmallows and were harrassed by Chip and Dale. (Isn't this like some sort of Fort initiation?) Anyway, the kids loved it, and they didn't settle down and go to sleep until around Midnight.

Despite the lack of sleep, we were up early Friday morning and headed to MK

We didn't have to wait long for the boat and managed to get there for rope drop. And to see this woman:

I have no idea who she was, but don't I look nice in my blue dress?

Anyway, by noon we had ridden on all the rides in Fantasyland, some of them twice. It was starting to get crowded, so we headed back to The Fort to take a break.

We hadn't been there long when the lifeguard ordered everyone out of the pool and mumbled something about "inclement weather", whatever that means. Psah, we are natives after all.

So, we headed back to the campsite to cook some hot dogs and get changed, etc before heading back to MK. We could hear the thunder in the distance, but hey, I had my canopy, so no big deal right?

Wrong. It poured. The canopy was no match for the downpour that ensued. I hustled the kids into the van (which was fortunately parked at the site), grabbed the important stuff and threw it in the back of the van. I unplugged the crockpot because I figured electricity and water don't mix. So, in the end, it wasn't the squirrel that got our dinner, but the rain.

Friday night, we returned to the tent, exhausted and slightly damp. The kids were completely worn out and collapsed onto the air mattresses. It took me slightly longer to fall asleep. Every time I dosed off, I kept hearing a noise. I could have sworn something was in the tent.

With flashlight in hand, I thoroughly checked out all corners of my tent and found nothing. I finally fell asleep but only to be woken at 2 a.m. by something that "plopped" in my hair :scared1: .

Grabbing the flashlight again, looking up, I saw an EVIL frog clinging to the ceiling of the tent and looking something like this!! ..........

Okay, okay, it may have looked more like this.......

But still, this is NOT what you want staring at you at 2 a.m.!! No one warned me there would be evil frogs trying to steal your kids' trading pins during the night. With a flashlight in one hand and wielding a flip flop in the other, I did manage to eventually get him out of the tent. Unfortunately, not without it plopping down onto my foot and me doing a new dance while whispering explicatives trying not to wake the kids.

Morning finally came, I packed up all the wet stuff, and headed home. The kids didn't want to turn in the golf cart, they enjoyed it way too much.

Nor were they ready to go home, my daughter said "But there is so much more to do here!"

So, we are planning another trip for October. I will however, bring extra flip flops to fight off the evil frogs.

Love the pics,, glad ya'll had a great time.
Post all the pics ya want,, we all love to see them.:thumbsup2

HaHa! Memories! Gotta love 'em! Well , you survived the trip and it looks like you may have even had fun, despite the evil frog! :rotfl:

I take full blame for the frog. One stowed away on our MH when we went to the 4thGG and we shooed him into FW. He lived on the top of our hurricane shutter guards with the rest of his 6 frog family. I hated to see him go, but he did want to ride in the awning. If you are missing your friend, his family of 5 is still pooping on the front porch of my house each night. (I have to pressure wash dagnabbit):lmao:

lol. I'm pretty sure the frogs were having a GG of their own last weekend. I have no idea why that one in particular decided to come visit me during the night. I coulda sworn he was staring at the trading pins my daughter had laid on her backpack!

We did! I was afraid after the downpour on Friday and things getting a bit wet that they'd be ready to go home that night. But they were too worn out from the park to even care. And they can't wait to go back!

We have evil frogs where we live too, really loud at night !:)

Yes, but do they sneak into your tent to steal Disney trading pins?

:lmao: Pinkee...you tell a heckuva story. I enjoyed this...the smiling frog is hilarious!!

Great report! I'm going to move this thread to the regular Fort Wilderness board, so people looking for info can read it! Thanks! :)

I was joking.....I said, didn't I look nice in my blue dress? lol. nvmd.

Sometimes ya' gotta 'splain it to 'em.

Congrats on pitching the tents with the kiddo's. I pitched two tents with just me and DD 5 (at the time) at FW. Next trip it will be one tent with DD8 and DS5.

You are making me miss tent camping.

What a great story! You're going to be telling this one with your kids forever!

Hope your next trip is less, um, eventful!!!! :goodvibes

Great story!!! You can solve the shelter problem by setting up the shelter in your yard and saturating it with waterproofing. Looks like you had a good time though!! You'll get better at it with each trip!!

Loved the report! But you know the frog isn't evil...
you're supposed to kiss him, so he will turn into a Prince. :thumbsup2

My dad always told me that if you have to explain the joke, then it's not very funny. lol

You are welcome to come join us in October to help me pitch the tent! ;)
Someday when I grow up, I'd like to have a tear drop trailer or an RV!

Thanks! It was a learning experience for sure.

Thanks for the encouragement! I saw a pic somewhere of your lovely set-up! Which type canopy do you use?

Since I wasn't sure if the kids would really like the whole camping thing, I didnt want to invest in an expensive screenhouse. When I took it out of the box for the first time, there was a slip of paper that said "THIS IS NOT WATERPROOF". What waterproofing product would you suggest? Or should I look for a different canopy?

I use the Wal-Mart Shelters, but the blue ones. I use the Wal-Mart brand "scotch guard" found in the camping section.
