As a family we have been to Florida many times but this will be the first time going to Anaheim. We travel in August and are doing a fly drive. My question is how many days should we spend in Anaheim? Our son is 15 so walking around is not a problem and we are then going to Universal to finish off prior to flying back. If anyone can recommend some good hotels in the area that would be great

thanks for the answers

We are actually in the same position as you guys. Going for the first time in August as well. We were also thinking about Universal at the end but then learned that Universal is not close to Disneyland, so I'm on the fence about moving to a hotel closer to Universal for the last 2 nights since we're flying out of LAX.

OK so I have only been to Disney land once but it was after the redo of DCA and I have done world many times. So how much time you need at Anaheim I'm not sure, depends on what all else you want to do but I can help you ballpark Disney time. I would normally say 3 days is a good trip to DL however all the the special anniversary shows will still be going till September so if that is something that is important to you I'd go 4days.

I'm not sure anyone can answer this question for someone else. What is enough for one is just a start for others!
We generally spend 5 days in the parks but in Nov. we got AP's so we could spend 6.

We are going 4 days later this month. We haven't been since 2014. We are traveling with 2 kids and will take it slow and not repeat m/any rides. Still, when we went before kids we used to do a minimum of 4 days although we went annually at least. 7 days was too much.

I would say 3 days is a good start for visiting Disneyland, and there are so many other things to do. There is a lot of information on these boards (check out our California & West section for other ideas).

Also, tonight at 8pm Pacific (or Disneyland time) we're going to be helping a family plan their first trip to Disneyland (also WDW vets). They have a 14 year old and a set of twins, so you might relate to their questions. The show will be published tomorrow, but if you're so inclined you might tune in tonight on Mxlr: http://mixlr.com/dis-unplugged-disneyland-edition/

No one can answer this question for you. It is far too subjective. Some people visit for for 2 or 3 days while others for 2 weeks. We would never visit for less than a week.

The rule of thumb is to spend half as many days at DLR as you would at WDW. So if you would normally spend 6 days at WDW then you should spend 3 days at DLR.
