First Time at Animal Kingdom Lodge

This will be our first time staying on site. We will be staying at the AKL.

We would like to hear about the essential must know about AKL, to do, etc.

YOU ARE SOOOOOOO LUCKY!!!!! AKL is our favorite resort. If you have a savannah view room, the popular choice of rooms appear to be Zebra or Kudu trail, overlooking Arusha Rock savannah, 2nd or 3rd floor. The lobby is located on the 3rd floor and if you don't like a long walk, request close to the lobby as the outer rooms can be a hike (especially after a looooong day at the parks ). The food court is quite good and the bus transportation is excellent. My biggest tip would be to take time and enjoy the resort. It is very, very beautiful. I could spend hours on the balcony.

This is also our first time to AKL. Because of some great rates we are staying concierge. Any tips.
We already booked the sunrise safari.....yeah....can't wait.

We were on Zebra Trail, but didn't overlook Arusha Rock and still had a wonderful view of the animals.

Eat at Boma. I liked the breakfast best and so did DS, but we love breakfast food. The dinner is great too. I would recommend having a ps for dinner. The one night there was a 2 hour wait at 6:00 and then shortly after that they stopped taking walk-ins. Next time we go, I know we will eat there as often as possible.

My DD really enjoyed the Story Time and they do move it inside if there is rain.

Bring bug spray.

Enjoy! It is an amazing place. My DH can't wait to go back either!!

One funny thing...my DS was really annoyed by the music at the bus stop!! We all made fun of him. When you are there, listen for the one song with all the singing. It drove him nuts when we were there. I try to sing it now that we are home and he just laughs.

Also...I wished I had known they sold the desserts from Boma at Mara before the last day!!! I would have eaten them all day long!! So yummy!!!

This is my very favorite place in the world! AKL is beautiful, and awe-inspiring. I went without kids, so a must for me was swimming in the beautiful pool at midnight. And the animals don't always sleep at night, so watching a giraffe or a zebra from your balcony in the sleepy darkness is hypnotizing. Boma was terrific (we went late, around 9:30 pm) and the chefs all came out to talk with us at our table. I could have spent hours just browsing the marketplace, sitting in the deep armchairs in the lobby, smelling the smoky smells of the fire, melting into the hot tub after a long day in the parks, or just exploring the hotel itself.

It's truly a masterpiece, and a destination all it's own. Enjoy yourself!
