We just planned a last minute trip to Disney. (Only for 4 nights)Because we could get a room for $59 we are staying at All Star Music. However, have always stayed at a moderate. Will we like the All Stars? My two children love to swim, how is the pool. Also we are going Labor Day weekend usually we go in October or November, what type of crowd can we expect. One more thing. We have not been in three years, what tips can you give me so that we can make the most of this trip. :jester:

We have stayed at the ASMU twice and enjoyed it both times. One time was with the children (they loved the pools) and the next time it was just me and two friends and we enjoyed it then also. Check out the new All-Star FAQ. Don't forget to send in a room request if you didn't do the preferred room.

My mother came down to visit me a few months ago. She's stayed at the Contemporary, Polynesian, and most recently, the Grand Floridian. I wanted to have her stay at AK Lodge, but she said that since it was just herself, she wanted the cheapest possible... so she changed my reservation for AK Lodge to All Star Music.

She stayed in the Rock 'n Roll section... and she liked it, actually. She was close to the quiet pool, so she enjoyed that. The pools aren't as elaborate as some of the other more expensive resorts, meaning, no water slide... but they are still nice. The main pool had a fountain I beleive. The walk from the Rock 'n Roll section was not far to the main building.

Even though we had my car, we still took Disney transportation to get around. (Yes... I do practice what I preach :) ) Most of the time, we waited about 5 mins or less... although one time we had to wait 11 minutes. (We must have just missed it) During park exits, the bus was crowded, but that's only to be expected when you have 30,000 people exiting a park at once.

The one thing I was a bit dissapointed in, was that the All-Stars don't have any bell services. Meaning, when you check in... you have to walk back to your room with your luggage. Having always stayed at a Deluxe, I was expecting someone to take my mother back in a golf cart. But, my mother is a world traveller, so she can handle herself. And like I said, it's not a far walk.

As for some tips that I have... Just some simple basic ones...

Relax... slow down... you're here to have fun, not get all stressed out. You get enough of that in the real world.

Labor Day weekend will probably be a bit more crowded than you're used to. As such, lines might be a little bit longer, and busses might be a little bit more crowded. As long as you expect this, you should be fine. As crowds get larger, we beef up the transportation... so I wouldn't worry about that. Lines can be deceiving, so don't always rely on that either.

And once again... the most important thing, which I cannot stress enough... Relax, and HAVE FUN! :)

hehe... that's just before MY vacation! :) (And no... i'm not going to Disney World... lol)

I'll be there... don't know where... but I'll be there. Should you see me... Say HI! :)

I LOVED our ASMo stay -- MUCH, MUCH better than our POR stay, and even better than CSR. We aren't in our room much and the price is GREAT!
We are staying at ASMu in October and ASMo again in January. I was always treated better at ASMo over CSR and POR. :)
AS have their acts together.

I am not sure how to link to a thread but it is on the next page right now. It is called the All-Star Movie FAQ but the same tips apply to all of the All-Stars.

Here is the link to the All Star FAQ thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2499

I've posted this before but I'll say it again... I love the layouts of the All Stars so much more than the moderates! We absolutely hated our stay at Dixie Landings for that reason. The distance to the bus stops and restaurants... horrible! JMHO! ;)

Have a great trip. I think you are gonna enjoy ASMU! My one tip for is just to have fun!

We stayed at All Star Music this past February - in the Broadway section. We usually stay at the Caribbean - we were very pleased with everything at the All Star. Someone posted that there was - no bell service. We used 'Yourride' for our transportation ( Rabbit was great ) - we checked our luggage with bell service right away. After we got all checked in - our rooms were ready - the gal who checked us in called bell service & we ended up arriving at our room the same time the luggage did!! I don't know if this service has always been available though.

We check checked in at noon went to Downtown Disney and looked around came back at 3:00, room was ready and the luggage had been delivered. I thought we had great service at ASMO......especially for the price. We are going back in Sept.

NBA Goofy-
We are planning our 5th trip in 4 years to WDW and we stayed at All Star Movies the first 2 times, then we stayed at Port Orleans FQ the 3rd because we went on the cruise, and we couldnt stay at All Stars as part of that package. We stayed at Movies again this past Jan. and have all star sports booked for our trip over Thanksgiving. We have 3 kids and the older DD's LOVE the All stars!! I honestly cant imagine spending any more money for a room. We are never there anyway! We dont need a water slide, a lounge, 2 sinks in the room or a sit down restaurant. We stayed at PO-FQ, and quite frankly, didnt like it NEAR as much!! For almost double the price, it wasnt that much bigger at all. Same size beds, same size dressers and table. What I didnt like were: 1. The Food Court. The Movies food court was 3 times as big and had about 5 different places for you to get different things. PO had 2 registers and your ordered off of one menu. Huge disappointment after 2 years with a great food court. 2. The buses. At all stars, on the way to the parks, each all star resort usually has its own bus. So once you get on it, it USUALLY doesnt stop anywhere else. This past Jan, the place was dead and we DID stop at music and sports sometimes but they are all in a row and it only took an extra 5 minutes. At PO, once we got to the bus stop and waited ( the wait here seemed much longer than anytime we stayed at Movies) you had to drive around to EVERY stop at PO AND Dixie Landings ( now Port Orleans River Side). There were MANY!! It seemed like it took forever to get to the parks. Now, on the way home, our stop was first so it wasnt bad. 3. The pool was closed. My kids were so excited to do the "dragon slide" and it was closed the entire time we were there. So if we wanted to do a big pool, we had to wait for and catch the boat to Dixie Landings, get off at the dock and walk to the pool. I just wasnt impressed with this more expensive moderate resort. Give me the all stars ANY time!!!

Oh, I also wanted to mention that we have NEVER carried our luggage to our room at All Stars. They do have bell service, but is usually doesnt go straight to your room asap. But by the time you check in, walk around and look at things and get to you room, its either already there, or will be there within 20 minutes.

another fan of AS here! we have stayed at most of the moderates and still keep going back to AS. We stayed at POR last April and to our surprise the food court closed at 10:00 as opposed to midnight with the AS. One thing that happened at the POR food court...we got in from the parks just in time to miss the food court. SO was wanting some of their fried chicken and there was a HUGE pile of it but they had closed the serving line. SO asked one of the CM's what they were going to do with the leftover chicken. The answer? "Throw it away". So if you are going to throw away the leftover chicken, why not sell some of it to me??? Because you were not in line by 10:00. Doesn't make much sense to me...oh well, ASMu here we come! :p

Pools are heated. My kids were in the pool in Dec. of 2000-01 and it was 23 degrees and they did not come out of the water. We froze, but they enjoyed it.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
