Last night, news broke online regarding the latest in plans for Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, announced details at the first ever D23 Expo in Japan of both an AVATAR Land and nighttime entertainment for the park. Although the creative partnership between AVATAR’s director, James Cameron, and producer Jon Landau, was originally revealed back in 2011, new information has emerged about the themed land and its future. Couple that with a surprising extension of what guests can experience after dark and Disney fans everywhere are voicing their opinions. Being that Animal Kingdom is my favorite park at Walt Disney World, I have to weigh in on the news, and let me warn you, it’s sprinkled with just a bit of pessimistic pixie dust.

Great article...I enjoyed reading and am very excited about these changes. People should realize that Disney does a great job at most everything they do. Let's forget Avatar was actually a movie. If Disney does this right, which I know they will, people will come and love this new area. You won't have to see the movie to enjoy this new expansion.

Much in the same vein..."Song Of The South" is virtually unseen in the modern age, and yet Splash Mountain remains one of(if not *the*) most popular attraction in all of WDW.

I love the ideas coming out of this expansion....especially making the AK a night-time park!

I don't think that AVATAR in itself is a problem in my mind, what is a problem is "are they going to do enough at night".

I dont want to go into that park at night and want to experience Avatar and see a 3 hour line because half of the rides are down at night there. It will make going there pointless.

I think the park would be gorgeous at night if it works.

I guess my only issue is that there are so many more worth whilr endeavors that you could do in AK.

I realize this is mainly to get more revenue out of a park by increasing hours but its just such a lame idea. Star Wars would be a much better fit.

James Cameron will make another gazillion dollars of this, but overall, I predict it being a transient attraction at best until they figure out aomethig better....

Might as well replace the Midway too....waste of space IMO.
