I was raised by parents who switched to being vegetarians when I was 10. My meat eating has never gone beyond burgers and chicken. I booked Le Cellier because my DH and his parents are big meat eaters and steak lovers. They had the mustard chicken on the menu when I booked that sounded really good but their new chicken entree doesn't sound all that appetizing to me. I figured now is as good a time as any to try steak since we're on the DDP. If I don't end up eating it, DH or FIL will.

What would you recommend getting for my first steak at Le Cellier? I've also never eaten a mushroom, so I'm not sure about the mushroom fillet, although I'm open to it. Thanks!! :yay:

Filet Mignon is a wonderful cut of meat. I think you'll enjoy it. Its very tender. I, on the other hand, dont like mushrooms, so I get the NY strip. Its wonderful too.....Good luck.

If it was me and I was eating my first steak, I would make reservations for the Yachtsman Steakhouse and order the Filet. Filets are smaller so you won't be quite as overwhelmed by the meat. In addition, since it is your first steak ever, I think you should enjoy an unadorned steak seasoned with nothing but salt and pepper.

Just my two cents.

The Filet (or Tenderloin of Beef) is the best cut of steak IMO (short of going to Kobe beef. It's the most tender. And as previously stated, it's usually a smaller portion.

The real question is what temperature to order ;) Because see, I say a good steak is medium rare, but if you've never had it before, that would probably gross you out. However, if you order one well done, that takes away from a lot of the tenderness of a steak, specifically the filet. I would suggest medium. (It'll be a little pink in the middle.)

Wow, you are in for a treat! I don't know if you should do the mushrooms AND steak at one time, because if you don't like one of them, the other might be ruined for you as well.

Steak and mushrooms! YUM!

I'd say order the mushroom filet and ask for it to be served like my DS11 did; "nothing touching" They brought it out and said it was "TV dinner style", the mushrooms were in a bowl, the sauce was in a bowl, and the filet was in the center of the plate all by itself :thumbsup2

The downside to starting with a filet is that it'll spoil you ;) DS's first filet was at age 10 and now that's all he wants to eat :rotfl2:

I was a vegetarian for 15 years. Now all I want is steak!!! The fillet at LeCellier was by far our best meal on our November trip. I LOVE mushrooms (surprised you never have had them, lots of vegetarian dishes use them as the "meat"). If you decide not to go for both, I am sure it would be great plain too or my DH had the strip steak there and it was very good too. I order mine med-well. I hate to see red, but it was cooked beautifully, not at all dry. My mouth is watering thinking of that meal...
Enjoy!

Thank you all for your input! The filet it is! I think I'll do as ChelleinNC suggested and order w/ the mushrooms and sauce on the side. That way if I don't like them I can still *hopefully* enjoy the steak.

My mom hates mushrooms so she never cooked anything with them. I've always said I don't like them, but when I sat down and thought about it, I've never actually tried one, lol.

The Filet Mignon is top notch. One of the best I ever had. Why not order some mushrooms on the side and see how you like them. Personally I love them.

Good luck on the filet. I would suggest that someone order the strip steak and let you have a taste. (Without the sauce is better.) NY strip is a great piece of steak. Although the filet is the prime cut for most people, as it is the leanest, the NYer has better flavor. It has a bit of marbleing, adding to the flavor. The one at LeCellier just explodes in your mouth. Think Ratatouille when he first puts the strawberry and cheese in his mouth at the same time. Yum!

Jiko is the best filet we have ever had at WDW

I know very little about the subject, but I'm wondering if vacation is the best time to test your digestive system with red meat for the first time?

Whenever you do try your first steak, I'd also suggest a filet mignon, not only for its tenderness, but also for its mild taste. As far as good steaks go, filet's don't have a lot of flavor, but that's probably good for a first timer.

Welcome to the dark side!
BostonRob has a point about testing your digestive system (I once ordered steak tartare before boarding a flight home from Paris!) But if you go slowly you may be alright.
Filets are more tender; strip steaks tend to have a grainier texture. Ribeyes have a lot of fat, which means they're more flavorful.
My recommendation for first steak? Go to Shula's at the Dolphin.

Since it is your "first" steak, is there any way your waitress can let the chef who is preparing it know. I bet that would make the chef realize the importance of the preparation and hopefully give you a great experience. Just a thought. Enjoy!
