We are taking my DD(8) for her 9th b-day. We allowed her to pick her resort and that was it. (secretly happy, I have always wanted to stay there)

Our home is SSR and we love it. We know our way around and where to ask to stay etc.

We are booked for standard view room 1 bdrm for some of the trip and a studio for some as well.

Just looking for any good advice from those who have stayed there. (I won't refuse pics either:rolleyes1 )

Thanks

We had a short stay at the main Wilderness Lodge Hotel prior to checking into our Westgate timeshare for a vacation in early 2006. This was our first experience staying "on site" at WDW. I fully credit this experience as the reason I am now I DVC member. The Westgate timeshare was sold soon after returning home. I have no desire to stay off site at WDW ever again. This is simply a personal preference, as I know there are TONS of super nice places to stay off site, but i fell in love with the Disney Experience at the hotel and was very impressed with the themeing, landscaping ,bus system, etc.

As for VWL specifically, take advantage of the lake and boat rentals, the trails, and the quick access to MK. I found that Wilderness Lodge had a wonderful, isolated feel. They really nailed the NP Lodge theme! Be sure to check out the gyser and ask about being the "flag family" when you check in.

Have a wonderful time at what is our favorite DVC. Don't forget to stay around the beach area one night to see the Electrical Parade on the water. Do check out the activity sheet, there may be a tour of the lodge, or something that would interest you. If the weather isn't hot, we always rent bicycles and ride from WL to FW area. We usually see deer along the path.

I don't like the enclosed balconies, so when we stayed at the lodge, I did always request not the top floor.

Make sure that you eat at Whispering Canyon Cafe. Do you like ketchup? If so, ask for some.

WD, you are so bad :lmao: .

There are so many great nooks and crannies at the main lodge that we usually spend several hours hanging around there, watching the people check in and listening for their jaw to go 'plop' as they hit the floor. That is my favorite sound ;) . We also enjoy taking the boat over to CR and riding around the world on the Monorail.
OP, I hope you enjoy our beloved Lodge as much as we all do. And don't forget the ketchup!

Thanks for all of the great advice.

We have eaten at the Whispering Canyon Cafe.....I prefer the bottomless milkshakes!! We are eating at some different spots this trip.

How is the on-site quick foods..?..We are all about a quick dip in the pool at least a couple nights during our stay. The kids play while I go grap a snack for all.

What is a "flag family"??????

If you are selected to be a flag family, you go up to the roof and raise the WL flags. The pictures from the roof are amazing. I've never been up there, but have see several pics of it.

Make sure that you request to be a flag family upon check in.
