We just got home from our first stay at SSR. Our 2BR villa was in Congress Park in the building closest to Disney Springs and on the top floor. We've been members since 2001 and since SSR was built, we've just never been interested in staying there. This trip, we made our reservations about 3 weeks out and 4 nights at SSR were miraculously available so we snatched it up. Our room was in good shape and I can't really complain about anything there. It was very quiet and we never heard neighbors or even saw any! In the four days there, I think I saw one person on the elevator and saw a few people sitting on their balconies in the morning, but other than that, it was like we had the whole building to ourself.

We used the quiet pool one night and thought the area around the pool was nice and the spa was fine as well. We didn't ever go to Disney Springs, but it would have been an easy walk had we gone. We drove to all the parks (except MK) because we just thought it would be easier. Our adult kids used the busses to get back to the room when they would come back at different times than us. We liked the back entrance and used that instead of winding through the resort on our way to and from the parks. DH and I had supper at Artist Palette one night and everything was fresh and quick.

Only two things come to mind about the room that I could even be slightly annoyed with. We had some type of really small bugs that hung out around the kitchen sink and even in the outlet next to the sink. They were not that much of a bother, but I did call maintenance before we left to report it. The only other issue was on the last morning, there was a rumbling sound that woke me up rather early. The master bedroom backed up to some mechanical rooms and something was running that caused some noise in our room. I never noticed it any other time and I needed to get up to get us packed up anyway - so no big deal.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at SSR again, but I sure do like the theming of most of the other resorts much better. We stayed one night at Boulder Ridge before leaving WDW and it always amazes me to walk in to Wilderness Lodge and take it all in.

Nice report. Glad you called about the bugs, can't let that go in Florida. Now tell us about Boulder Ridge!

We stayed at SSR a few nights back in July, and it was our first time, as well, though we only had a studio. Our thoughts were much like yours--it was a quiet enough resort, and we truly liked the proximity to DS (we were in Congress Park, too). We drove rather than take the buses all but one time, and that one time was enough to convince us to continue driving which we do most trips, anyway. The waits weren't terribly long, but with all the stops in SSR and the construction around the area, we found driving much simpler, though the signage at the time was poor. We didn't find the theming memorable, but the room was comfortable and clean. It met our needs, and in the end, that's all we cared about since it was a last-minute trip to celebrate our anniversary. However, it's our least favorite DVC resort, and we wouldn't choose it again except as another last-minute alternative when nothing else was available. And, it's not as though it was a hovel, just not our cup of tea. ;)
