I was just in WDW for my birthday (September 11 - 18) and wouldn't you know it - 5 days after we get back my girlfriend breaks up with me. Go figure.

So with a few vacation days to use before the end of the year I decided I'm going back to the place I enjoy the most - WDW!

This will be my first SOLO trip. Just kicking back for 3 days, enjoying 3 days of parks, staying at Pop Century. No dining plan on this trip, I eat a lot less when I eat on my own, I think I'll save money this way.

I was pretty nervous about booking it, but heck, it's 3 days! I think it'll be neat to be on my own schedule, not having to worry about when to eat, when to take a break, how much to ride, etc.

As a first time solo traveler, I'd appreciate any thoughts, comments, or tips.

Thanks!

Mike.

Congrats, Mike! My advice is just to do whatever you want to do. Enjoy the freedom of not having to do what someone else wants to do. Whatever you couldn't do last time because your girlfriend didn't want to...do that. Over and over again. :thumbsup2

Just relax and enjoy the atmosphere. You'll find being solo gives you a lot of freedom to maybe check out some of those things you don't normally get a chance to check out because others in your party aren't interested in them (Like say, some of the films in the countries around the world showcase.... or animal trails at AK).

And with rides, they tend to go much quicker since there are the few that have single rider lines that speed things up dramatically... and even those without single rider lines will often come down looking for an extra person to fill out a theater or ride vehicle.

You will totally enjoy the freedom that comes with going solo. My "non-Disney" friends can't understand how I can have fun in "a park made for kids"...obviously they aren't doing it right. you'll be fine, take your time, see what you want eat if you want (or not) and just enjoy the magic. I tend to take more pictures when I'm solo as well, both photo pass and on my own.
So wish I could make it down one last time this year (hush DC!!) but it's gonna be hard with my practice & performance schedule.
Good luck and have a great time!!

Hey Mike! I will be there from November 9-16th. Maybe we can meet up and chill for a while!

I just confirmed that I'll be meeting 2 of my college fraternity members for a day during my trip! So day 1 and 3 are mine and day 2 will be spent with great friends!

This solo trip idea is getting better and better all the time!

It's great to have something like this to look forward to!

Watch out....those 3 days will probably make you want to go back for a longer solo stay.:lmao: It happened to me.

I'm a big fan of solo travel... I've been to Disney many times (solo) and many other places.

I enjoy the freedom of doing what I want, when I want.

Enjoy!

Hey Mike...
Congrats on booking your first solo trip...I've been thinking about doing that for a while, but haven't gotten up the courage to do so...it is daunting for me..so I will live vicariously thru u!!:cheer2:

Hey Mike,

I just got back from my 3rd solo trip. I have to say, I love them. I meet awesome people and just relax. It's fun to sit in the English gardens at EPCOT with a beer and just people watch, or go on Rock n Roller Coaster over and over again.

I'm hosting a solo meet at the Tambu Lounge on 12/7 at 7pm, so if you or any other solos are in WDW then, come hang out!

I can't explain the weird emotions and thoughts that have gone through my head before, during and after scheduling this, my first solo trip. At first it seemed like a great idea. I felt independent and in control. Then I thought, boy, I seem pathetic - people are going to talk. Then finally, I decided that a) I love Walt Disney World, and I don't care if people think that's weird; b) Life is short and I don't want to have regrets - We don't get yesterday back; and c) this trip is a quick 3 day trip - it's not financially draining and I've got the vacation days to do it.

So all in all, I'm psyched up about it! I'll make a few credit card payments to pay for it all, and I get to spend a few days enjoying the magic of WDW. I think it's great that what used to seem like a HUGE endeaver to schedule a vacation to WDW and plan it out, and save and pay for a big trip, and worry about getting schedules to work out among other people, etc. is not that big of a deal now! Easy peezee lemon squeezee!

This is making me think that I can do this WHENEVER I WANT!! If this works out the way I hope, I may be doing this more often. I can't tell you how cool that feels.

I think on this trip I'm going to truly go solo on days 1 and 3, and then meet up with my college friends on day 2. I think I'll look into meeting other like minded WDW solo people on future trips. I've had a few people offer to meet up on this trip, and I thank you. I think I'll look into meeting others next time around.

I saw someone's "signature" on these boards the other day that paraphrased something that Joseph Dunninger, a mentalist (magician who does psychic effects) once said. Dunninger said "For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice."

The person applied it to WDW. They said "Disney: For those who get it, no explanation is necessary, for those who don't, no explanation will do."

I get it. I love it. I'm going back to WDW. Yay me.

Mike.

PS: The girlfriend who dumped me 5 days after our September WDW trip is sorry and wants me back. We're trying it again...
