As part of my healing from losing my partner Page, I decided I needed to go back to WDW, so I booked a studio at BWV Oct. 2-7th for F&W. I'm a pretty seasoned traveler to WDW, but always as part of a duo or a large group. Any suggestions about what I should do during F&W? Anything special or different? It will be my first F&W experience. Also, any tips for solo gay travelers are welcome, too!

Thanks in advance...

I do not have any advice as I've never been to the F+W, but I did want to send you my condolences and let you know that you are in my thoughts.

I'm so glad to hear that your going. Disney can be such a good place to heal.
I wish you were going when I'll be there (oct 18th-25th)...I'm originally from Brooklyn and I'd would have love to have met up. F&W is so much fun...I'm a foodie and I love small portions or tastes of things. Be forewarned though..it can get expensive..those "tastes" are $3-5 a pop not even including the wines. I wish I drank because pairing wine with food just seems so wonderful.

Steve,

I go to Food & Wine every year and most of the time I go alone. You'll have a great time. The nice thing about staying at BWV is that you can walk around a bit then head back to the room for a swim. Definitely do some wine tasting seminars - last year they were held in the old Wonders of Life building. I did lots (make that LOTS) of them last year and I usually ended up meeting some nice people. They also have seminars on champagne and scotch. Back by the American Adventure they have beer seminars - Sam Adams. You should also check out the concerts. The best advice I have is to pace yourself since there's so much good food and wine!! Pick up a copy of the festival guide when you enter the park and look at the schedule. You'll enjoy yourself.

I love to go to DisneyWorld by myself. It is so freeing to be able to do what I want to do, when I want to do it, without having to take any one else's needs or wants into consideration. If I want to go on every ride in the park, I can do that! If I want to stop and people watch, I can do that! It's really wonderful.
Since you'll be at Beach Club, you can walk to Epcot and DHS, which is awesome! Munch your way around the countries and create some new wonderful memories for yourself.
This won't be an easy trip at times, as if sounds like you and Page went to WDW often. So, memories of the times you two spent at WDW will come up. That's ok, just grieve for awhile, smile with fondness about the happy stuff and keep breathing.
We went to WDW a week after my partner's father died and it was a difficult trip at times, but also a very healing trip as well.

Take care and have fun!

Steve - Be sure to watch the disney sites - the hard ticket events are due to be posted this month (or early next month). These are events that cost more and have limited attendance. I have done vertical tastings (wine from the same vines over a series of years), cheese tastings, and some of the regional feasts, as well as one titled (I think) The Cook and the The Book (got to meet Cat Cora!!!). All were very interesting. These events sell out quickly - so if you decide you want to do one - book as soon as they are posted.

As Rosie said - the cost can be amazing (the total at the end of the trip always makes me cringe) but the tastes are really great!

The free seminars usually line up about an hour before the start time. Hunny (tiggr33) and I usually take camp stools as our feet get tired just standing.

The event schedule and all the seminar locations and times are usually available before times, but are scheduled to change of course.

Enjoy!!!

Cayla
