We LOVE LOVE LOVE camping and try to go for at least 1 week every summer. We have a condo tent (that's what someone called it years ago and I loved it - mind you he was drunk but it was funny)
it's one of those 12 sleeper tents - the one with the huge hexagon in the centre and the 3 (double bed size) rooms that shoot off. We've got a portable fridge and all the equipment you could possibly want except for the motor home i'm dying to get but seems that luxury is years away.
Anyways I'm wondering how far you drive to tent camp at FW.
We had a mh when i was a kid and twice camped for 7-10 nights at FW. I remember how much fun it was and would love our dd to experience all the fun.
Problem is we live in Toronto, Canada. We do drive down when we come (coming down next May and staying in resorts but totally taking advantage of dinner at FW to get the feel of the place), but it's a long drive - nearly 24 hours and with a small child we take 2.5 days to do it only driving around 800 miles a day. with breaks for breakfast, lunch, dinner and pee breaks that's about a 12 hour day.
It seems a very long way to go for camping - i know it would be worth it but the thought is very daunting. We wouldn't be able to camp on the way down - not like having an rv where you can just pull up to a site and go to sleep without hooking up. it does take a while to set up.
how far do you guys travel - how big are your tents. how often do you travel that distance for tenting?
and - if we wanted to camp in January how far in advance do we have to book? I know the summers book up almost 2 years in advance what about winter?
Oh and if you do tent in the winter - how cold does it get? I remember coming down in Jan when dh ran the marathons and was surprised how cold it was early in the morning.
