Here are a few pics off my first DSLR, my new Sony A700 using a Sony 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 lens. Mostly these are right off the camera with no filters on the lens and using auto settings. I played a bit with a couple of editing functions, brightened up the first photo as it was taken at dusk. I also cropped the b/w and then compressed the files but that's about it! I need to learn more about RAW files, editing etc. but I'm very happy with what i can get out of the box. Any comments/suggestions would be great. :)

They look nice! I like the slight bit of alpenglow in the first shot.

Very nice! And a very pretty place! The only thing I would suggest is getting your horizons at the thirds spots. For example, you could benefit from a little more sky in the first, a little more beach on the second, a little less forest on the third and fourth, and lastly a little more forest in the fifth.

The thirds rule is not always required, but on landscape shots, it really helps the composition. It keeps your eyes from wandering out of the shot.

I like the one of your dog. It looks like he is saying, "Oh, brother. This is the first of many photos of me. Sigh...."

Neat! It must feel great to finally use it!

Love the Corgi!

My .02 is that you could straighten the horizon a bit in pp.

Keep em coming!

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. The place is Lake Tahoe - just a 30 minute drive up the mountain. I see that I do have to watch the horizon line - I must tilt! Yesterday I picked up some reading material to learn more about shooting in Raw, post processing etc. It'll be nice to have a little more knowledge, rather than just be guessing.

And yes, the puppy just stares at me as I come at him with the camera. I could be imagining it, but I think it's starting to trigger a nap mode for him! :lmao:
