I would keep CM's for breakfast on your first day. This is just my opinion, but we think CM's is MUCH better for breakfast than dinner. We ate the dinner, and it was fine, but we really like the breakfast buffet much more.
We have done lots of things our first night in town depending on arrival time and what we "feel" like. I'll list them below. You may hate them all, but at least I tried!
Option #1: Eat at your resort food court. If you are planning lots of meals AWAY from your resort (especially at lunch/dinner) this may be a rare opportunity to enjoy the food court. You can walk around and explore the resort too.
Option #2: Go to DTD and eat at one of the many choices there (we like Earl of Sandwich for a quick meal). You can go to the World of
Disney store to see all the Disney merchandise you can imagine. (If you need to purchase Mickey ears, autograph book, etc. you can do that here to "get excited" for the next day.) Get to bed early so you are ready for your morning.
Option #3: Eat at a resort that you'd like to explore other than your own. I recommend a monorail resort or Wilderness Lodge. We love O'hana at the Poly for dinner. After eating you can go to the beach and watch Wishes (or not to save it as a surprise for when you watch it at the park). You can ride the monorail around (or take the boat from WL) to see the Magic Kingdom and get excited about your trip.
Of course you can combine the above as well. (Eat at your resort, then go to MK to ride the monorail; or eat at Poly then go to DTD). No matter where you eat, you can make that night so magical by building the anticipation for the next day!!! Have a great time.
