We will be arriving into WDW in the afternoon and we're thinking about our first night dinner! It's just myself and my DS6....I already have Chef Mickey's set up for out first morning but want something they says YUMMY and Disney to start our trip off with......we're staying at All Star Sports but do not have any preference as far as location goes.....

I would do Chef Mickey's on the first night. CM's on night of arrival is our family tradition.

Our first stop is the gift shop at the Contemporary to purchase our autograph books and pens Then dine w/ Mickey and Minnie, after dinner we go out to the 4th floor observation deck and watch the fireworks (with the music piped in). Then do a monorail loop, get off at TTC and take it to EPCOT as well. Now that's what I call Disney.

You can even get off at MK, and watch the fireworks from outside the gates of MK. We've done that too.

Dinner at Chef Mickey's just screams "I'm at WDW" and we are doing it on our first night again. I like the idea of eating and then going to the forth floor to watch fireworks.

I'm kind of skeptical about dinner buffets, is the food good or just alright?

I would keep CM's for breakfast on your first day. This is just my opinion, but we think CM's is MUCH better for breakfast than dinner. We ate the dinner, and it was fine, but we really like the breakfast buffet much more.

We have done lots of things our first night in town depending on arrival time and what we "feel" like. I'll list them below. You may hate them all, but at least I tried!

Option #1: Eat at your resort food court. If you are planning lots of meals AWAY from your resort (especially at lunch/dinner) this may be a rare opportunity to enjoy the food court. You can walk around and explore the resort too.

Option #2: Go to DTD and eat at one of the many choices there (we like Earl of Sandwich for a quick meal). You can go to the World of Disney store to see all the Disney merchandise you can imagine. (If you need to purchase Mickey ears, autograph book, etc. you can do that here to "get excited" for the next day.) Get to bed early so you are ready for your morning.

Option #3: Eat at a resort that you'd like to explore other than your own. I recommend a monorail resort or Wilderness Lodge. We love O'hana at the Poly for dinner. After eating you can go to the beach and watch Wishes (or not to save it as a surprise for when you watch it at the park). You can ride the monorail around (or take the boat from WL) to see the Magic Kingdom and get excited about your trip.

Of course you can combine the above as well. (Eat at your resort, then go to MK to ride the monorail; or eat at Poly then go to DTD). No matter where you eat, you can make that night so magical by building the anticipation for the next day!!! Have a great time.

I think O'Hana might be it.....meat sounds good :o) and a nice way to get over jet lag!!

Have me one of those super alcoholic drinks that come inside the pineapple :o)

I agree with Disney Princess, Chef Mickey's breakfast is so much better than dinner!

- I like the idea of staying at the resort; it will be a great time to explore and my kids love the photo ops at the All-Stars.:thumbsup2

-Otherwise, I would suggest 'Ohana, Whispering Canyon Cafe or going to DTD and trying T-Rex or Rainforest Cafe.

I agree I think 'Ohana is the place to go it is relaxing and fun and you can ask to be near the window and look out at all of the palm trees. We usually go to DTD and get a drink and eat at WPE. Have a blast.

I would say go to 'Ohana- Great food and you can ask for a window to enjoy the view of the castle. Then after you can either go MK or just stroll around the resort.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I also recommend O'Hana's. A good option is to try and make your reservation 1.5-2 hours before the MK fireworks start. Then, after dinner walk down to the beach at the Poly and grab a spot to watch the show. They pipe in the music and the experience will really get you in the Disney spirit!

How young and into Mickey are your kids?

We usually eat at CM for dinner the night of arrival because of all the restaurants this is the most cartoonish and you will get to see Mickey and Minnie. It is very loud and exciting. The younger kids love the napkin twirling.

We were really dissappointed in our 'Ohana meal for the second year in a row. Even the fireworks and the view couldn't make up for the food.

I knew that my niece and nephew (5 &6) and my DD8 wanted chicken fingers so I was really unhappy that the waiter put us off TWICE by saying "Let them try it". So after no one ate and I insisted, they brought out chicken fingers, making for 3 cranky kids and a much later night then expected. Year before, couldn't get a refill on anything.

Do they still serve those awesome potato's though? They were the best thing we ate there! :thumbsup2

I usually go to Crystal Palace on the first night. When we get there, my kids are anxious to go to MK. So Crystal Palace has always been a good choice for us. For me, that screams, "We're at Disney!!" but again, that's just our tradition.

Sounds like there are alot of good suggestions here!

We're getting in too late to do a park the first night, so we're just going to do dinner at the resort (POR - Boatwright's), followed by Chef Mickey's the next morning and heading to MK afterwards.
