We are officially band parents now. DS14 had his first competition last night. Their show is really cool! :cool1: . They swept all of the awards and took Grand Champion. They were pretty excited! I can hardly wait for the next one!

Congratulations! What instrument does your DS play? We were real active band parents when DS was in high school, chaperoned almost every event, DH worked half-time, I was band booster secretary. Just remember what I told someone in MK-"Once a band parent, always a band parent." Even though DS has been out of high school band for over 5 years, I still get teary when I see high school bands performing-especially at WDW. And yesterday, I watched the video of DS's senior year half time show performance again. I'll bet that was one fun bus ride home last night!

Band student checking in. The past three times we participated in a local competition, we sweeped Grand Champion and best visual, grand effect, and music side awards. We are going to a BOA Super Regional in November. Don't have any competitions for another month.

Daughter's band has first competition this up coming Saturday - and the next and next, etc., - think they are competing every weekend until Nov

Good luck with your next one and way to go!

DS plays the trombone. They are going to the BOA Super Regional in St. Louis in October. They have competitions pretty much every weekend through the end of October as well as football games. It is so much fun. I just ran into some other new band parents at church and they had never been to a competition and they were all a glow.

We watched our old band in the St. Louis Super Regional last year and saw our new band there. The band was the deciding factor in choosing this town. They are amazing. I can hardly wait for more shows!

DS's School has a competition every weekend as well and is a regular at BOA. This is a slide show from 2005 when DS's band won Grand Nationals. They are going to Macy's this year too. Nothing better (or more exhausting) that band season.

Congrats to all the band kids and to all of you band parents out there. I was a band parent for 8 years and I miss the competitions, half time shows and Solo and Ensembles tremendously. Even though our kids have graduated and moved on, DH and I still attend the high school football games when the weather permits to support the band. We also attend BOA functions...it really does get in your blood.

To really satisfy our music fix, we travel during the summer to watch Drum Corp Competitions all over the country. Those of you with kids in bands, check the DCI website. www.dci.org.

Cool video. I am just amazed at how hard these kids work, how much they have to memorize. I think my brain would pop if I had to try to memorize all that music and field show positions. :lmao:

They do work hard! The music is usually not very difficult and memorizes easily. The show itself is another matter. Good stuff though.

Not our show this year. The music is very difficult. The kids have all said this music is harder then any music they have ever played and the band program here is very good. I know the trombone part is extremely difficult. The kids have really stepped up to the plate and they have all passed their memorization tests (175 kids in the band).

Congrats to all you other successful band students and parents! :cool1:

My son's band took all firsts last year in competitions. We also went marching at the Magic Kingdom the week of Thanksgiving last year. Being a band parent is a lot of fun! :goodvibes

My thoughts exactly. My DD is a colorguard girl (as we like to call her) for the first time as a high school freshman this year. She also plays a trumpet in the freshman band. I have so much more appreciation for the marching band and color guard than ever before. I did not realize the amount of hours and hard work that the put into their show. DH says that this is not an extra curricular activity it is a "job". These kids work 8 hours a day a lot of times. DD had practice yesterday from 9-5. The first competition is this coming Saturday and I am so "psyched"! I can not wait to see the show!

Good luck to all of the band and color guard kids out there! DD will be marching in Disney on President's Day weekend and we can't wait!

Love love love marching band. I was in colorguard when I was in highschool oh so many years ago and I still get a chill when I watch a marching band perform.

Good luck to all you band members out there.
