I mostly lurk but wanted to come out of hiding and say thank you for this board! I started reading it last year and decided to begin the couch to 5k program. I found out I love running and I'm doing my first half (Covenant Health Marathon in Knoxville) this weekend. I don't know if I'll ever get to realize my dream of running a disney race but you guys are a great inspiration and source of support.

Thanks!

Good luck! Let us know how it goes. It's always good to hear other people's experiences.

Be careful! These races are addicting! :teeth:

Hope you have a good time. As Maura said, be sure to let us know how it goes!

Good luck!!!! :cheer2:

Have a great race! And remember that you can make your dreams come true! Running Disney is a lot of fun.

Thanks everyone!

I could not have had a better race. Foggy start, but temps stayed in mid-50's the whole time. Very well organized and run race. After hitting the inside (woo hoo!) bathrooms and checking my bag, I found my corral. Within 10 minutes we were off! There was great volunteer support throughout the race and although the music wasn't too my taste, they had a good number of bands scattered over the course.

The route is really hilly, but I knew that going in. My time was a couple of minutes slower than I expected - 2 hrs and 26 min - but I ran the whole thing (except for the water breaks, otherwise I end up with the water or poweraid down my shirt). Also, the finish line was fantastic - the 50 yard line in Neyland Stadium (home field for UT Vols football).

I would highly recommend this race to anyone!

Congratulations!

I've just started training for the Wine and Dine half and have little running experience but have been kickboxing/cross-training for a few years.

Would love to hear details about your training and your plan for your half, if you feel like sharing.

Thanks!

Justcruisin' - I did the free half marathon training program by Hal Higdon. You can find it at halhigdon.com. It's printable. It worked for me because I'm getting up in age :scared1: and my knees aren't what they used to be. This program let me run 3 times a week and cross train on the other days. I was a little nervous because the longest run before the half was just 10 miles but once I ran the half I had no problem with the extra distance.

Congratulations! So happy to hear about your first experience. Good job getting it done!

Way to go! Sounds like you had a good experience. Have any upcoming plans?

Maura
