Can I interest you in some trip reports to read?? Have a look here at the index our first trip is on there along with many others :)

When you first get there everything will seem so big. It can be daunting at first, but after a day or 2 you will be fine.

l remember walking out of the airport and thinking, wow l'm in America it was such a great feeling. The trip to the hotel was in a Limo which we had hired as a surprise for the kids and their faces were a picture. The trip to the hotel was just a blur.

The next morning l was up around 5 and went out on the balcony and just watched the cars going by and it felt really strange thinking how far from home l was. For the first few days l kept thinking about the time difference and what l would be doing at home(only briefly).

It was really like being in a different world. Fantastic

Hope l don't sound to sad but it was great :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

i have to agree it is like a different world, i always wanted to go to florida since i was a kid and i went in 2001 when i was 20 (took me long enough) and again last jan with my girlfriend all i can say is that its awesome it really is a fantastic place it will b my last time for a while now as my girlfriend wants to try a few different places but as i am only 23 i got plenty more time to go thank god

Hi Marv

You'll have a great time and YES you'll be amazed at the differences and YES it will be a bit daunting at first because everything is so big - but the biggest thing is the bug that you'll be bitten by - 'the must go again' one - my first trip was in 1999 and it was to be the trip of a lifetime and a one-off - I'm going again in Oct for the 6th time - I just can't get enough of the place - like so many on these boards.

Enjoy.

YES! I haven't even been yet and i allready feel s if i have to go again, it is a wierd feeling. It also was a dream to go when i was a child, and i feel so greatfull that iam able to go and take my children with me.

My first visit was magical. One of my ambitions was to meet Winnie the Pooh at WDW in Florida - this was back in the early 80s when all that was in WDW was MK and a brand new Epcot:earseek:

I remember seeing Cinderella's castle the first time and wanting to cry - because I couldn't believe I really was there:tongue:

We flew into Miami, then got an internal flight to Tampa, since we stayed on St Pete Beach for the first week. It was like nothing I'd ever seen before - I can still remember hearing the sounds of the sirens on the emergency vechicles - I'm really here::yes::

And the rain our first evening was warm - and we popped into a McDonalds and the American's couldn't believe we'd walked half a mile to go there when it was a drive through:rolleyes:

We met some lovely people, got invited around a retired school ma'ams for Halloween and had a wonderfully brilliant time.

I decided there and then that if ever I had children I would move heaven and earth to get them to see MK for the first time - and my DD (then 6) didn't disappoint me:teeth:

My DH (was) not a theme park fan - he's been converted, although still won't do anything more scarier (in his book) than MIB, Spiderman or Woody's Coaster:earsboy: But he loves the States, especially since we always spend much more time on the gulf coast than at the parks. There's so many lovely parks and areas to visit in Florida as well as the theme parks.

My partners first thought "I'm dreaming".
My thought " WOW!"

It's amazing, I agree, we have stood at the balcony on the first morning there at 5am, and just cant believe the difference, and how amazing it looks in person.

The castle was a big breath taker, I remember welling up just looking at it.

Crying when Chelsea meets the characters. :) I'm such a softie, but it just makes my heart melt when she is living her dream of disney, see meets the characters, and see's the parades, etc.

It is very daunting on your first trip we went with my family when we first went for moral support but after 2 days we was out and about by ourselves, we soon knew the roads, and even drove to St.Pete's, Naples and Miami on our first holiday there.

It's amazing, take it all in!!!

Hi

You will love it,we havent been home long from our first trip and we are looking at going back hopefully next year.

As already been posted ours was a holiday of a lifetime for us and our honeymoon,we never thought we would get to go back again but are saving like mad to get back.think we have been bitten by the "bug". We really dont want to go anywhere else now.

Have a great time.

our first thought was WOW.

Yes - we too were bitten by the bug! DH was not too keen on going to the USA at all - but relented (under severe pressure from me & DS!) 3 years ago and we visited Orlando for the first time. It was going to be a one-off, we all agreed.

However, DH loved it from the minute we arrived. He even enjoyed the shopping over there - which he hates at home! He loves the customer service- and all the attention to detail of WDW & US/IOA.

We were all blown away by IOA.

As soon as we got home we decided we would go back again - which we did last year - when we got back from that trip, we arranged this one!

It's now become an annual event - and I'm starting to wonder if we could fit in a visit at Christmas!

It's all you imagine it to be - and then some!

Beware of the bug!

I was always of the belief that a holiday was pack your case with a few good books, laze by the pool/beach of a day and go for it in the night. It took 10 years of my married life for my parents to convince us to try Florida. Boy do i regret not going sooner.

It is the most wonderful experience I have had on a holiday.

Everything about the place will astound you. Attention to detail and cleanliness were my first big impression.

One thing I was apprehensive about was the reputation for crime
in the states. I was suprised and shocked to feel safer in florida than I do in the uk.

Sure there are parts to be avoided but on the whole I felt no threat whatsoever. You certainly don`t see gangs of youths drinking on corners as in the uk. I also noticed that young people on the whole respect their elders more over there. Very rarely do you hear foul language in public.

When you visit the parks for the first time you will be "gobsmacked" by the scale and quality of everything.

I often hear comments about the price of an entrance to a theme park being expensive, and I must confess I was guilty myself before. However i remember my elder sister asking me if I still thought it was a "rip off " after my first ever ride (terminator) and i said "that alone was worth the entry fee. from then on I was hooked and would be jostling in line with everyone else.

The rest as they say is history.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with every sentiment of yourwelcome's post. It took us even longer to decide to go. I regret that we didn;t take DS at a younger age. He was 12 on our first trip.
