First Family today!!

That's so awesome!!! How exciting for your daughter. A great memory for sure.

Did they just pick you out of the crowd of people? How early had you arrived to the park?

Yes, was there with my husband, daughter and in laws. We got there about 7:45 for a 9:00 opening. Around 8:10 or so a cast member came up and started chatting with us, primarily my daughter who is very chatty. After about a minute he let us know we'd been picked and took us to a waiting area. Because of this board, I knew what was happening, the rest of the family had no clue, but were super excited.

What all did you get to do being First Family? I have seen the First Family before, but I wasn't what goes on behind the scenes.

Were you the only ones there or was there a crowd? I'm wondering what our chances are if we get to the gate over an hour before opening...

We got to meet the Mayor (who is just wonderful),dancers and participate in the opening show, which was unbelievably amazing! We then got a photo-pass photographer who took tons of pics. Then we got to ride in the 'fire truck' down Main Street to Cinderella Castle area with tons more photos taken. Also got some bonus fast passes which, of course, came in quite handy! We also got a small certificate and a free 8x10 of us during the park opening. Everyone was wonderful!!

I'd say a light crowd. We definitely weren't the first ones. Others in line and milling about. We actually didn't intend to get there as early as we did, just lucked out!

Thanks! And congrats!!

I'd love to try but I think my girls would lose their minds if they had to wait over an hour for the park to open!

Whoa, so cool! I had no idea this even exists! Almost makes me want to cancel one of our pre-park ADR just for the small chance of it happening. Sounds so magical!

Congratulations! What a special treat!! How awesome for your daughter, too. We were once on Mickey's float in the Jammin' Jungle Parade. It was awesome!

I'd be willing to bet if you walked in late to your ADR with your Family of the Day certificate, they'd figure something out :)

Did you also get lunch at the Plaza? Every time we eat lunch there, the Mayor comes in and recognizes (what I always thought I understood was) the family of the day who seems to always be there eating around noon.

Yay that's awesome! We were 'hollywoods happy couple once when they used to do it at HS and it's just the best experience. Hope you had fun!

Wow - that sounds great! Can anyone explain to me what the First Family is? Sounds like it was super special for your family :-)

Not sure where this should go exactly, but we got picked as the First Family at the Magic Kingdom today!!! It was a super cool experience, especially for our 6 yr old's first trip. Tried to explain to her that this isn't something she gets to do every time...:wizard: Just had to share!!!

Very cool! Pls share pics when you can.

The first family is chosen to open the park for the day and you see them up on the train platform. When we did it at Hollywood studios we opened the park stood in Walt Disneys old car and had to say lights camera action and got to choose a ride to go to first where we were the only ones on the ride (we went for rock n roller coaster). We got given the ride photo, a pic in front of mickeys hat and a signed pic of mickey and minnie with a certificate saying we were 'hollywoods happy couple' for the day. They also wrote 1St family on a badge so cms and characters paid more attention. I'm not sure how it works at mk but it's a really special memory and great experience :goodvibes it's a shame they don't so it at HS anymore
