First DL trip -- GCH concierge question

This will be our first trip to DL so I have a lot of questions. I booked a concierge room at GCH using our DVC points and I recall having read on the resort boards about WDW Concierge staff contacting guests prior to their arrival to make Dining reservations and such. Does the GCH staff do this as well or should I plan on making those arrangements myself. I have read about the Craftsman's club but what other benefits are their to staying at the concierge level over a standard room? Since we are using our DVC points we thought it would be nice to splurge, but I guess it would be even nicer to know what we are splurging for.:rotfl2:

They do not contact you before the trip. However, you can contact Vacation Planning to make ressies for you. They can also arrange for a variety of baskets or special items in your room when you get there. This service is available for all guests staying at any of the resort hotels.

Concierge will get you access to the lounge for food. I know there are a ton of threads with the food choices. Also, you get priority check-in so that you do not need to wait in the line.

Thank you, I wasn't sure how that worked. We will probably only need to make 1 reservation for our trip anyways. We plan on trying Ariel's Grotto so I will probably need to call at the 60 day mark.

Actually I have been called a few times before we arrived at GCH concierge. They usually just want to know if they could help arrange anything special, like the gift baskets. They don't call about dining reservations though.

That is wonderful! Was this recently? Our last 3 trips have all been concierge and we have never been called before. However, our last trip was in 2005.

Definately a step in the right direction if they are starting to make these calls.

I was there last weekend and did not get calls before the trip. I did get a postcard yesterday signed by all the concierge staff.

You know, I don't think there is really any rhyme or reason to when or if they call. I was there 2 weeks ago, no call beforehand. But when I was there in April and last December, I got calls before both. And I've only received the postcard from all of the concierge staff once. Maybe it depends on who is working. I really didn't need the call, I usually arrange everything myself at the same time I make my room reservations.
