First Disney World Memory

1990, I was 10. Character breakfast in toontown. Met Roger Rabbit. Never been happier!!!

It was in 1975 when dh and i went (he was my boyfriend then as i was still in high school!) I have a picture of us on tom sawyer island back then and we took another one in the same spot last year!

It was in the 70's, don't remember the year, but I remember watching the Main Street Electrical Parade in all white lights. The music was the same as now. I fell in love with it that night. I remember being awed by Haunted Mansion. We rode 20,000 Leagues but the line was huge and the AC in our submarine was broken. Very hot and stuffy in there.

July 1973- I was 7 and my brother was 10. We spent 2 days at WDW on our way to Miami. My brother talked me into riding Haunted Mansion, and I literally climbed my dad's legs to get off the floor of the Stretching Room. Then, on the Doom Buggy, I cried when I saw the Hitchhiking Ghost sitting next to me.

40 years later, I am still mad at my brother for tricking me! :scared: But I like HM now (still don't trust those Hitchhiking ghosts, though...).

My first memory of Disney is of punching Mickey on the nose when I was 3. Fortunately, Mickey seems to have forgiven me. :D

I'm thinking very end of 1985ish. Couple months shy of 3 years old. My parents took me on Space Mountain. All I remember is screaming/crying and burying my face in my dad's shirt.

You know what? That might be my earliest memory.

Wouldn't ride a roller coaster for 10 years and never let them forget it, of course. :-)

Fortunately I womaned up and now I love roller coasters and will ride pretty much anything!

Another early memory for me is my brother going on this he must of been around five which would make me three. He went on with my grandpa and grandpa didn't hold on to him and he slid under neath the bars on the way down. He didn't get hurt but I remember how scared he was and he gets mad when anyone mentions it. But surprisingly he'll ride any ride today :)

Not to scare anyone lol

Ha!! This is almost exactly mine too!

1970-something, my mom can't remember and thanks to some bad film, we have NO pics at all. It must've been July 4th week, because that was when my dad had his vacation. So of course the lines were nuts, and we lined up for what I can now assume was the riverboat. But I will never forget the moment where we finally got to the covered portion of the queue....for HM. I was terrified of scary stuff as a kid, and said I didn't want to ride, to which my mom replied "we've stood here this long, we're riding!" The stretching room was awful!!! I don't think I opened my eyes again except once, and it was in the hallway with the creaking doors...had recurrent nightmares of that for years LOL. Next thing I saw was the hitchhiking ghost, which I was ok with. Mom kept telling me we were past the scary parts but of course she had no credibility at that point!!! Hahahahha! I do fondly remember Mr. Toad, 20,0000 Leagues, Hall of Presidents, and lunch at what I think must've been Pinocchios. That's actually ALL I remember (plus the parking tram and monorail), because we definitely left before dark (I begged to stay for fireworks!), so we must've been there near July 4 to have lines that long. What I would give for one pic with my dad (who's gone) and mom (fighting cancer) at MK :(. At least my kids will have that and more :)

1974- I was 8 years old and definitely remember waiting and riding 20,000 Leagues. And seeing the balloons released the day Space Mountain opened.

1992, and I was 10 years old. It was just my parents and I (I'm an only child), and it was all of our first visit to WDW.

Magic Kingdom memories:
- My dad telling anyone who would listen while we stood in line for rides about the weather we left behind in Oklahoma (90 degrees and about 80% humidity). Even though it rained each afternoon during our WDW visit, we thought it was great compared to home.
- Taking a picture with the lion character (was he from The Emperor? I can't really remember...)
- Riding the monorail to the Poly 3 days in a row to have lunch at what is now Kona. I can't remember if it was called that back then or not, but it's the same location.

Epcot:
- I was obsessed with all things France (thank you, 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics), and my parents told me I could pick the lunch restaurant that day. OF COURSE I picked Chefs de France. I was so excited--I had a Shirley Temple, and then I was disappointed that the menu sounded horrible to me once we got there. Ha! But I remember sitting there in that "fancy" restaurant next to the tall windows, my parents indulging me by going there, and all of us turning our noses up at the menu. Lol!

General:
- We stayed off-site at what was the Holiday Inn Lake Buena Vista (I think it has been renamed to something else now...). Anyway, it was a fantastic off-site resort, and they had a kid's dinner and a Disney movie each night where parents could drop you off and they could enjoy a nice dinner. I refused to go. My poor parents! :P

My first trip to WDW was Christmas break 1985 which means I was 11. I remember thinking the monorail between EPCOT and MK was so amazing. I remember everyone walking those invisible dogs on leashes, eating a Dole Whip and the Hitchhiking Ghosts on Haunted Mansion.

I must have been around 4 or 5, and I'm not sure if it was DL or WDW. But I was in one of the shops, standing on a stool, and talking on one of those old time phones, where you have the ear piece and the separate mouth piece.

I remember talking with someone on the other line. Mickey perhaps. My mother has a photo.

So is it the memory, or the photo bringing the memory i dont know. I need to get that photo from her.

Anyways, I think they phones still exist but I havent located them. I THINK its in the shop next to where the main st confectionary was. I think they sell hats in there?

1980 -- we were celebrating my dad legally adopting us and he took us to the MK. I was 4 and too short to ride Big Thunder Mountain, but my parents took turns riding it with my sister. While waiting to the BTMR, I decided to touch a catus to see if it was real -- it was and I got a thorn stuck in my finger.

I also vividly remember going on Mr. Toad's Wild ride and thinking everything was real. I thought we were going through real bookcases, real bales of hay, etc, etc. To be honest with you, I can still see it in my mind. I will never forget going on it again when i was 10 and discovering that we were going through doors to get from room to room. disappointing.

Lastly, I remember sitting on the curb of Main St., waiting for the parade to start. We struck up a conversation with a Brazilian woman and she was so nice and ended up giving me a Brazilian penny when the parade was over. I still have the penny and for years, I associated that parade with the lovely Brazilian woman, which is funny, considering how the Brazilians are thought of on these boards now.

1996. I was afraid of everything except Small World. And when we went on Dumbo, I refused to sit with my dad so I sat with my mom and he rode with his brother. Best picture ever

Meeting Goofy with my little brother and sister. I don't remember a whole lot of Disney World on that trip. I do remember we stayed off site, went in the middle of summer, and that my parents weren't real big ride people, so I don't think we rode a whole lot. I remember it rained a lot, so we all got the big yellow Disney ponchos. We stayed for the fireworks one night. I remember seeing Captain EO, and going through Mickey and Minnie's houses. There was no DHS or Animal Kingdom at that time. Oh, and I vaguely remember riding POTC.

I hope my kids remember more about their trips than I did!!! :p

My first trip to Disneyworld was in May, 1978. We were supposed to stay in Treehouse, but our friends cancelled, so we gave up the 2bd and were 'transferred' to a lagoon front, castle view room at the Poly. WOW!

I remember sitting on the balcony (3rd floor) and freaking out when the water pageant music started up....thought I was hallucinating for a sec there.

I remember everything being magical, especially when my boy friend proposed at the Luau. I spent the next 12 months trying to get a reservation at the Poly for the kickoff to our Caribbean honeymoon...never got them, but went to the Poly for drinks before checking into our other accommodations (can't remember where). I snuck away from the little tiki bar and waited in line in hopes a room would open up. The front desk CM advised the young man in front of me (he was about 12) that yes, there was ONE ROOM available that night, but that he needed a credit card to hold it...He said he had to go find his parents. HA! I felt no shame in yanking out my CC and grabbing that room as fast as I could. The CM was really sweet about picking up our bags at the other resort and cancelling that ressie even tho it was after 6pm. But she kinda looked at me weird when my response to her occupancy question was......FOUR. (Long/short: our best friends had come to Disney for just one night but somehow th elure of the Poly trumped 'privacy' worries)

We spent the next 23 years going to Disney yearly, often meeting those same friends. Unfortunately, no magical endings as we divorced in 2003....but I then bought into DVC so I could start a new magical chapter at my happy place!pixiedust:

My first trip to WDW was my honeymoon in 1996 (wedding was in 1995) and we stayed at Shades of Green. We went to the Polynesian for the luau and I loved walking the grounds and thought it was such a fantastic hotel and dreamed about staying there one day.

Now that is our favorite resort and we stay there frequently.

I was 4 or 5 y/o and it was early 80s. This is my first true memory of anything. I remember walking into the Poly lobby and thinking I was in a different world. My dad was checking us in when my mom and I walked to the beach and looked across the water. I still remember it, in slow motion, seeing the castle come into view. I was AMAZED!! I knew then, that this was MY place. And from that moment on, if I wasn't at WDW, I was trying to figure out how to get back there. Even though I still see that castle and think it's all mine, I have learned to share.:flower3:

Same trip I also was convinced on PP, Wendy waved to me and said to come back every year. At least that's what I told my dad.;) and it worked!
