First Cruise Questions

It appears I cannot reply to you individually, so I want to say thank you to everyone!

I was unaware of the previous Personal Navigators, so it is nice to look over past activities to get a sense of what they offer. On the topic of tips, I will probably bring some cash to Tip room service if we use it.

We are staying a few days in Vancouver so I will also checkout Fly Over Canada.

As for disembark day, I have a few follow up questions. It sounds like at a certain time, let's use 8am for an example they go through and gather your luggage? Does this sound right? In order to prepare for this event, you should get ready before then and pack before the bags are taken?

Or are the bags taken the night before? Just trying to nail down the timeline to prevent us from being in an awkward situation.

Your primary bags that you do not want to carry off are gathered the night before (they will give you a character tag that will match up where you collect them). Your carry-on (er, off) bags are what need to be taken with you. You are expected to take them off the ship with you. Not sure what happens if you leave them in your room after the set time you are expected to be out of your room. I'd expect that they would remove them from the ship but good luck trying to find your luggage. But don't worry...they do a good job explaining all this in the Navigator they put in your room the night before. Just be sure you keep clothes out you want to wear the next day!

Suitcases are collected from outside your room at around 11pm the night before.

Some people choose not to put their suitcases out and if this is the case then you are expected to walk them off. After 8am all rooms need to be empty so if you have a case (or carry on) then you would need to take this from the room (and possibly to breakfast etc).

And trust me, this is not easy. We tried ONCE to take all our luggage off because we thought it would be quicker to get through the terminal. Well we could not get an elevator for over an hour that we could fit on with all our luggage as everyone else had the same idea LOL. My DD and DH finally started carrying the luggage down -- and we were on deck 7! Now when we leave with our carryons, we take the elevator up and it seems easier to get one, or walk all the way forward (which is no picnic if you have all your luggage either).

If we're not in a hurry to be somewhere or catch a flight, we have actually just stayed near the elevator lobby until after 8:30 a.m. and then it was a lot easier to get an elevator.

You actually don't have to bring your bags to breakfast if you have early seating or use the buffet, as long as you are out of the stateroom by the time given (usually 8 a.m.). We have many times gone up and gotten breakfast, let our stateroom host know and then returned for our bags before 8 a.m. and it was fine. I think if you have the later seating, however, that won't work.

I think the stateroom hosts like you to take the luggage when you go so they can get started turning the rooms over for the next cruise.

That's why we always let our stateroom host know and they have never had a problem with it. I wouldn't take advantage of their kindness and, say, come back at 8:30 because then that would put them behind. We are usually on our way by 7:45 anyway.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was correcting you -- just giving you another option. AND another one is that you can also go up to Cabana and get your breakfast and bring it back to the room while you finish getting ready. We have also done that many times -- my DD and DH will go up and get coffee and juice and bagels, etc. around 7 a.m. and then we finish our last minute packing and getting ready and just walk out of the room.

AND another one is that you can also go up to Cabana and get your breakfast and bring it back to the room while you finish getting ready. Is Cabanas usually crowded on disembarkation day? On another cruise line we've sailed we've usually done the MDR for breakfast on the last day because it's always so much more relaxed than the buffet.

in 13 cruises, we have never done Cabanas on disembarkation day so I am also looking forward to the answer.

I think it depends on when you get up there -- but if you are taking your luggage and trying to get a seat, it can be a little challenging. If we are eating up there, we usually leave our stateroom around 6:30 without our carryons and come back down at 7:30 to get everything and leave. Not having luggage makes it much easier to find seating or get around. Of course, there is always the pool deck for seating also.

Just for personal reasons, we stopped doing the MDR on the last day after our fourth cruise.

It is a hit or miss if it is busy...If you go between the two MDR times (as in end of first, beginning of second), then its not AS busy. Just make sure you don't burn your hand with scalding hot water
