What did you buy your child for their first Christmas? I'm having a hard time thinking of what to get her..... Let me learn from your experience!

Cute baby!!! We didn't get DD much her first XMas, but the big gift was the Fisher Price Learning Home. It's really a nice toy for babies. They can sit and play with it, crawl through, etc. I also had my in-laws get her a Bitty Baby from American Girl, so she can have the doll for all her life. They didn't know what to get, and I think it was a good keepsake gift she can always have.

My youngest DS was only 2 months on his first Christmas. I get him books and items that I knew that I wanted to get him in the coming months like an exersaucer.

We bought my son a savings bond for his first Christmas. He has no idea about it but it's there. Other than that, we bought him absolutely nothing. He was only two months old and being the first grandchild and great grandchild we knew he would get plenty. But some of the noteable gifts he received and loved a few months later were very similar to these:

What a precious baby!!!!

Our DS is now 18! The time just flies. However, his first Christmas he was just 2 months old. Not a lot of presents required:goodvibes

I know that we bought one of the interactive playsets with all the music and lights and a play blanket. He got a ball that had lights and sounds. Also, the family was really into savings bonds.

We were so young...I just didn't think that he needed a lot. Funny thing is I bought those things with the idea that he would be laying down and using them but I held him most of the time! Oh, well!

Getting ornaments are part of our Christmas traditions. Many times they are given as gifts. I take a thin sharpie pen and put each child's name, the year and who gave the ornament to them. Some times it's tricky to fit it on the back side of the figure. I've gotten really clever with hiding the info, and very small writing. When they are older, they will know who each one came from and hopefully have fond memories.. and wonder why their mom ALWAYS wrote their name in their underwear too. :rotfl2:
and I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions on gifts from this board.

I'm buying my granddaughter a Bitty Baby and stroller. She'll be 1 year old and 1 day on Christmas so she obviously also has a birthday on Christmas Eve. She'll get a dolly cradle with blanket and one of the disappearing milk/juice bottle sets for her birthday. She may not play much with the doll but as the other poster mentioned, it will be a nice quality first doll to grow into. I'll also be buying books, but I get my grandkids the Weekly Reader hard-back book sets every year from QVC and she will get a set too. The only other gift I'm giving is a nice set of wooden blocks from Haba. They're a bit pricey but they last forever and are heirloom quality. You might want to make her a Shutterfly book afterwards for "_____'s First Christmas. She won't remember the day much but it will be a way to show her how you celebrated in years to come.---Kathy

I am making my son a laminated book with pics of everyone in the family - brother, sister, parents, grandparents, etc...even the dog. That way, we can read about "who loves Sam" every night<3.

DS got a musical activity table. Oh boy, was he thrilled! He also got a few books and a couple of other small things that i can't remember.

A toy box. If you have a dad/grandpa that does wood work maybe have them make one instead of buying one, but lets face it family is NOT going to listen to you. You will have toys coming out your ears. If not at the first Christmas, just wait to the 1st birthday.

I also 2nd the idea of ornaments or a personalized piggy bank. Maybe a personalized stocking.

Congrats and enjoy making memories this Christmas with your new addition!!

Putting money in some type of educational fund would be great. Starting out early will give it plenty time to grow. Let the grandparents and aunts and uncles spoil the baby.

Just found the pictures from my first Christmas. I was 4 months old. I got tons of clothes, a ugly teddy bear, a couple ordements (still have these!) and A strawberry shortcake doll. For some reason this doll is still with me 26 years latter.

I can't even remember what we got him, all I remember is that it came in a huge box. The box was his favorite toy. Don't have any pictures with the toy from the box, just him in it and on top of it. :rotfl:

We didn't spend much money on either of our DDs 1st Christmas's. Our oldest was 10 months, our youngest 2 months. I did get both of them rubber ducks, books, and probably a stuffed animal. Our oldest did get the Drop and Roar Dinosaur, which we still have and is a favorite in our house 5 years later. For DS this will be his first Christmas and he too will be 10 months. Since we got rid of all of the bay toys Santa has made him a Glow Worm, a chuck truck, and a Fischer Price Cement truck.

we got our little girl who was 6 months some different fisher price stuff and some books. and a little ride on car. my big tip for you is to use bows and not wrapping papper, i still remember her taking the bows off and putting them on her tummy..... have fun and enjoy

Nothing. He was not even a month old yet, so we spent the money on each other. His second Christmas he got clothes and a movie.

I remember that I spent about $35 at Kohls on their 50% off Fisher Price and Little Tikes sale. She was two months old and slept through most of Christmas anyway.

We also do a new ornament each year, something significant that reflects milestones, travels or interests from that year for each kid.

Our daughter was 9 months old on her first Christmas and we had presents filling half of our living room! How stupid were we! LOL She got tired so quickly and wanted nothing to do with opening the presents and when she did she liked the box the best. Get a few things from Santa so if you are video taping it when she gets a little older and likes to watch videos of herself then she won't say to you "Why didn't Santa bring me any presents for my first Christmas?" That said no reason to get more than that. Don't be stupid like we were!

Thanks for all the replies! Our daughter will be just over 6 months old at Christmas and I know we shouldn't go crazy. As of right we've purchased two Fischer Price toys and three books. I think we might get two or three more small toys and that's about it. I'm a big ornament collector, so she already has a few that she'll be getting. We're also getting her a Disney gift card for our trip in May, but that's more so we can budget for her souvenirs!
Was there any specific toy that your 6 month old just loved? I'm not really loving anything I see..... Thanks again!

Babies always like the bows and wrappers better than anything you buy for them.
