I just had 2 nights open up at the beach club at the end of our scheduled trip. It was a dream come true I hopped on booking it immediately, switched to a second browser to alert my current reservation to free up the points. Switched back to the beach club browser points still weren’t there. Refreshed, points still weren’t there. It was trying to make me borrow points which I really didn’t want to do. Panicked and backed out and in turn lost the reservation. What did I do wrong dvc vets?

If you're going to need to cancel a reservation in order to make a new one, use the Modify feature when you go to look for a new reservation rather than simply doing a search. This way it will do the booking and cancelling at the same time, freeing up the points that you wanted to use.

Awww, so very sorry you had that experience on your very first booking. :sad2: I agree with JetsDad on how to accomplish this going forward. I Hope you got on a waitlist immediately if you lost all of your rez, which it sounds like you did. You can have up to 2 active w/l so you can waitlist for what you really want and your 2nd choice, or for whatever is mostly likely to come through for you. :goodvibes

He was dropping 2 nights off of booking to add the 2 nights at BCV, I assume for a split stay. So he modified the original week down to 5 nights on one browser. Hoped the freed up points would appear in the other browser where he held the 2 night BCV booking and even refreshed to get the points to show.

OP...did you have transfer points used in the original booking? Those won't show online. Otherwise it sounds like a glitch. Did you call to see where those points went?

I missed the split stay part but even with the old system that is not the correct way to use the 2 browser method (and with the new system it wouldn't work either). With the 2 browser method you would have to click to borrow points, then use the other browser to cancel a reservation, then cancel out of borrowing for the points to appear. Simply refreshing the entire screen would not do that or would also risk losing the dates.

Played out exactly as you imagined. I thought I had it figured out from all the browsing I do on these boards lol. The points ended up showing up after I refreshed again but I had already backed out of the booking page. I was out at the time so doing it all from mobile and not connected to WiFi might have contributed also. They weren’t transferred points though.

Thank you! Helpful to know how to do it correctly next time!

I used the 2 browser method several times and never clicked to borrow. Just being at the screen to select points and then refreshing was enough.

I don't think that method works anymore with the new system.

But this - all reports have been this no longer works. I gave it a test try and also had it fail.

I think the modify tool would have worked for the OP.

Based on what they posted, I suspect OP was trying to replace last two nights at the end of a current reservation with the BCV find. Can’t do that with a modify tool unless those last two nights were booked as a standalone reservation.

As far as I understand it, the modify function allows you to start with one reservation and end with one reservation, not two. What the OP wanted was to start with a longer reservation and end with a split stay.
The modify function can be used to modity the original reservation and shorten it by two days. But then the change has to be committed before being able to start booking the 2 new days at the BCV, this means there is a chance to be homeless for two nights if the BCV nights are snagged before the modifications are over. It is not possible to open a transaction, modify the first reservation, book the other two nights and then make all changes final at the end.
