Why in the first two weeks of september, everywhere I look it says the crowds are usually near the lowest? Whats the reasoning behind that? This will only be our second vacation to Disney. The last time we went was April of 2013.

I think mainly because children will be back at school, and most families have already taken their summer vacation by then. I would expect labor day to be crowded! We went in Oct and crowds were not bad, except at Epcot for their Wine & Dine festival! We couldn't hardly get thru the crowds from one country to the next, for the people standing around and drinking! LOL! Magic Kingdom closed early ( I think 7pm)on Halloween Party nights, so we had to watch for that.

Definitely because of school starting. Our kids go back to school the day after Labor Day and there is just no amount of discounts that could make me pull them out of school in the first two weeks of a new school year.

We've gone in September several times, in fact every time we go. It's simply the best time to be there. Very low crowds, warm weather, lots of specials and discounts on everything outside the parks. I won't go any other time! We made the mistake of going on Labor day at the beginning of our vacation one year-Yikes! Impossibly crowded. It did make the rest of week seem even better by comparison though.

A lot of schools go back after labor day. Luckily for us, my daughter goes back in the middle of August, so we can easily pull her from school for a week in September. We'll be in WDW 9/10-9/16 :goodvibes:goodvibes

While some schools start in late August, most schools are back by the day after Labor Day. No one like to pull the kids right at the start of the year so the majority of families do not travel those weeks.

You also still have the hot and humid weather that some like to avoid and it is considered hurricane season and people don't want to risk having their Disney vacation rained out.

It's a great time to go if you can do it. We always go in October after the kids have gotten at least a month of school in and the weather is a little better.

Starting the day after Labor Day is a great time to go, probably the slowest time of the year. Picks up again in October with fall breaks and food and wine.

Shhh...don't tell anyone this. It's when we go every year.

Nearly all schools have started by then and very few parents want to take their children out the first week or two of school.

Also--smack dab in the height of hurricane season and it's still hot as heck out.
