How do you feel about fireworks? Not the ones that are presented at big 4th of July shows and at WDW, but the ones that people buy at the roadside stands and then set off in neighborhoods.

Those neighborhood ones have always scared and concerned me. I don't like to be anywhere around them and don't like to hear them going off. It's not only scary for me, but I don't like the effect it has on household pets.

My DH just said last night that he has a couple of "rockets" in the cabinet that he wants to set off tomorrow and I told him make sure I'm not around -- I don't like the idea at all!

Our homeowner's association newsletter that came yesterday talks about people in our neighborhood having a get-together tomorrow night down the street and invited people to bring their own fireworks. They even mentioned that it's "your last chance" as our county is banning them as of September of this year. (Doesn't that tell you something right there?)

Sounds like accidents waiting to happen to me. I'm already hearing and reading articles about accidents and it isn't even the 4th yet! (We get the same thing on New Year's Eve, too).

How do you feel about this kind of firework usage?

If handled with caution and care, shot off in a large, open area with all safety precautions met in a state where it's legal, I don't have an issue with it.

That being said, the neighborhood kids who were shooting bottle rockets over top of my house at 11:30 last night (in a crowded neighborhood) -- that, I have a problem with.

Well the president of the Homeowners Association took it upon himself to put in the newsletter that we shouldn't use them in OUR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD, that if we feel the need we should do it elsewhere. All that made me want to do is to set off the fireworks in front of his house (he lives down the street) but since I am afraid of setting off fireworks :o I think I'll send the kid next door to do it for me. :teeth:

I don't really like hearing them or setting them off but I don't have a problem with them in theory.;)
HOWEVER!
In our county it is legal (we live kind of in the country) and they have been going off for 2 weeks now, since the roadside stands opened. It's getting very old hearing the bangs!
And our neighbors across the street have lit them off every night this week until 10:00pm. (at least it's not later) One night they lit off a 6 foot row of plain crackers and it was so loud! Our cats were freaked and I was so afraid the baby would wake up. (thank goodness no) They laughed when my DH went outside to see what all was up, they said" The baby isn't going to sleep tonight!" This is not something you tell sleep-deprived new parents!
So I guess I have no problems with fireworks, just the people who use them unwisely.

NOT trying to be a fuddy-dud but, I'm especially concerned about fireworks in the hands of amateurs. I love attending and watching the professional displays tho (we did tonight). I even have a 'limit' with amateur stuff....sparklers (not this year tho) and, those pop-thingies that just go "POP" when they hit the ground (DD did these tonight with my brother). But, when you're talking anything EXPLOSIVE, unguided, unknown....I have a problem. Of course, as a kid, I was hit by an M-80 so, I have my reasons. :(

PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU'RE USING/HANDLING FIREWORKS, OF ANY KIND!!

HAVE A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE 4TH OF JULY!!

<font color=navy>I don't have a problem with legal ones, as long as people use caution (and they don't always).

However, I do have a problem with bottle rockets, etc. A bottle rocket set our house on fire, and if my dad & brother hadn't been home to start hosing down our roof, we would have lost everything. The fire department did show up, and there was damage, but, luckily, it was manageable.
