Fireworks with shorties

I think WDW should make it a rule that kids can't be on parent's shoulders. I know it would be difficult to police. It is just so dangerous for the kids with so many people crowded in. WDW disallowed selfie sticks I believe for safety reasons. Why not this?

They can't ban everything. Selfie sticks are a hazard on rides as well as just walking thru the parks. Also, they can take selfie sticks from guests and police it that way. How are you going to stop people from having their kids on their shoulders? CMs pushing their way thru the crowd and telling guests to put their kids down? That would work for the 10 seconds the CM was there.

I’ve asked people in front of me to remove their children from their shoulders because it’s blocking my family’s view. It’s uncomfortable to do that, but they clearly understand and remove the kids. I’ve put my daughter on my shoulders for parades and other things, but I always make sure there’s no one behind me when I do. It’s mind blowing to see people prop their kids up as if they are the ONLY ones viewing the show.
I don’t understand filming the fireworks either. A. Disney already filmed them and you can watch them online anytime you like. B. When the announcement came on about the park lights being dimmed for the show, that was not a que to illuminate the park with your smart phone.
Tonight, a woman stood on a cooler AND filmed the fireworks with the flash on the entire show!!! I’m pretty sure I stopped breathing for a solid minute.
I really hope Disney will step in and control this nonsense.

We were in MK on 6/22 and watched HEA from Garden Plaza West (in front of Casey's) so I'll share my experience. We grabbed our spot right in front of the fence with the walkway in front of us at around 7 p.m. Half the walkway was reserved for wheelchairs/ecv's. I heard the cm saying that up to 5 people/family were allowed in and very quickly the area was packed with standing people and strollers. The disabled were then being turned away as there was no more space left. Many were not happy!
The garden plaza was fairly empty but people were starting to come in. There is an area to the left reserved for club level fp guests but the rest is open. We had dinner and ice cream to pass the time and by 8:30 the place was packed but everyone was sitting down. What surprised me was that nobody stood up during the show and had I known this I would have taken a spot in the back and stood as the projections were difficult to see with everyone standing in the disabled area in front of me. We sat along with everyone else out of consideration. The fireworks were amazing. For anybody willing to invest the time to grab a spot early it really is the same view as the dessert party garden plaza east (had seen Wishes from there when it was a fp area) without the high cost.

I kind of think more or less everyone feels that way these days.
Parents do this because their kids can't see. You get mad because you can't see.

Both of you feel that YOUR FAMILY is entitled to a decent view, no? Why should one family be more entitled to see the show than another?

I totally agree with your second point, because lighted screens are far more disruptive to everyone, but I also know the folks who film feel equally entitled to film.

(Personally, kids on shoulders don't bother me, because I went to WDW when I was little, and remember when I couldn't see. I just adjust myself a little to one side, and I can see fine, as long as they aren't bouncing all over.)

And where does it end? Do we get mad at the person who happens to be tall?

I'm not saying audiences aren't rude these days, I'm just not sure how we decide which person has more of a right to a clear view.

Parents can hold their child up so they are the same height as they are, but it takes some muscle, and most parents can't be bothered.

Now this was last year; but when we went, we got a spot on the sidewalk as if waiting for the parade (even though it has been discontinued) to eat. We were situated near the corner at the end of the walkway that comes out of Tomorrow Land. They kept the street clear once HEA started though so there was a big space in front of us with no people. That allowed my 7 year-old to stand in front of me and see fine.

If they still keep the street clear instead of having everyone cram in and fill the space (Lord I hope so), that is what I plan to do in a month when we go.

Just got back from our trip on 6/17. We also have 2 "shorties" and opted for the Casey's Corner garden area for HEA viewing. Just the far left side of the garden was roped off for Club Level, but was maybe about 1/4th of the total garden area. Directly in front of the garden (the walkway) was roped off for ECV/wheelchair access. We staked out a spot at about 8:00pm for the fireworks. It was very nice because everyone was sitting or laying down (and stayed that way for the remainder of the show - no fighting for a good view). Great viewing spot! Additionally, a CM was managing the area to check for Club Level/ECV and would turn people away when the open garden area got "too full". He also made sure nobody was sitting on the front railings, blocking views, etc. made it really "fair" and made for a great show.
