Fireworks question

A couple questions actually. My family is planning our first big trip down and all of us except my mom LOVE fireworks, so obviously Wishes and Illuminations are on our to-do list. We also wanted to plan a CRT dinner during Wishes for one of our MK nights. My questions mainly have to do with my mom being scared of them and not wanting to see them (the loud sudden noises scare her)

1) Can you hear the fireworks eating in CRT or just the music? Wondering if we should plan our dinner for earlier so my mom can seek shelter :P Along with that, are there places inside MK where you can't hear Wishes or would she have to peace out of the park completely?

2) For Illuminations, since the park technically closes at 9 when the fireworks start, will my mom be able to "hide" inside somewhere so she can't hear them or would she have to leave a little early?

3) Any recommendations on places to watch the fireworks but not necessarily hear them full blast? (is this even possible?)

Such a funny question to ask but she literally can't handle them. Whenever we have summer-fest fireworks in our hometown she hides in the basement :duck:

If she literally cannot handle them, then you may need to rework your plans. I have never eaten in the castle during fireworks, but it is unimaginable to me that they would not be loud. You would be right in the middle of them. As you no doubt know, the sound is simply a function of distance. The only way to avoid the sound is to get into a soundproof room (and there isn't one) or to move as far away as possible. Viable options would be the viewing area on the 4th floor of the Contemporary Resort, or further yet, outside at the Polynesian. Even in those two places, you will hear "booms".

As far as Illuminations is concerned, the same rules apply, but to a lesser extent. It is not a traditional fireworks show. It is more lights, music and some "up in the air" flares that illuminate the ground below. The show does not feature big exploding shells the way that Wishes does. However, at the grand finale, there is a very, very, VERY loud boom from a gas explosion coming from the globe. You can feel that one in your chest. And it can be heard from miles away. Tough to avoid that one. There is no place in Epcot where you cannot hear it. Even if you are staying at Swan/Dolphin/Yacht Club/BeachClub/Boardwalk and have your balcony door fully closed you can hear it. Every night. NOt knowing just how adverse your mom is to all of this, I am hesitant to give suggestions. But you should act accordingly knowing that fireworks in general are very loud, and Disney's are no exception.

Anywhere IN the park is probably going to be too loud for her, including indoors.

I'd suggest the Polynesian Beach (maybe Ohanas during Wishes) or the Grand Floridian docks.

If it's the noise maybe get her some good foam ear plugs? (Although you can still "feel" a few of the bursts inside of the park)

Whoa thanks for the heads up about Illuminations! That stinks because I feel like she would love the show but that ending boom would probably give her a heart attack :worried:
The reason I asked about CRT was because I heard they amplify the music, and if she has that sort of distraction, the fireworks probably won't bother her as much. Between the crowds, music, eating and talking she may be able to handle it, just wasn't sure how much the music is amplified or how loud the fireworks are.

Earplugs! Good idea. If I can convince her to wear them that would be great. I just don't want her to leave alone while all of us are enjoying the fireworks, but I also don't want her to drag us with her :rotfl:
As for the polynesian beach, are you allowed to watch them from there even if you aren't staying at that resort?

Illuminations is loud, very loud. Would she be okay with noise canceling head phones? If not she may need to head out early.

When we go to the range we wear the foam ear plugs and then noise canceling ear muffs on top. And you can still hear the guns so I imagine you would still hear fireworks just not as loud.

You can definitely hear the fireworks inside CRT, but you cannot really see them. There are a few small windows that give a very obstructed view, but you would need to be seated next to them in order to see anything.

Watching wishes from the Poly or the TTC would probably be you best option, but she'll still be able to hear them.

As far as Illuminations goes, you cannot see it from outside of the park, or from indoors. And there will be nowhere nearby that your mom can escape the sound.

Earplugs will probably help.

Honestly, if your mom really can't stand the sound, it might be best for her to just head back to the hotel before the fireworks start.

I could run that by her. She's okay with loud just not sudden booms/cracks and what not. Basically she hates being startled so watching fireworks and having some randomly explode with a big boom is what gets her. If it was just loud continuous music that would be fine (its so strange) :confused3

Thanks for the quick replies everyone! Looks like she will be SOL. She's used to staying behind for fireworks (never spends the 4th with us) I was just desperately trying to find a way for her to stay with us at the parks. I will run the earplugs by her but it may just be me staying with my siblings while her and my stepdad go back early.
This also changes our CRT plans so thanks for that as well!
