Firstly this is my first post so Hello to everyone!

Secondly my DH has MS and has VERY limited mobility. He uses an ECV/Scooter while at WDW which is great, with no problems.

My question is has anyone been able to get on one of the Firework Cruise Pontoons with similar disibilities. He is very unsteady on his feet so I really need to know if there would be a big drop or step-up onto the Pontoon.

He & the children just love Fireworks and this would be agreat way of getting them nearer to them.

Hope you can help.:D

Hi. Welcome to disABILITIES.
We have not taken an Illuminations Cruise, but we rent a 12 passenger pontoon boat every year at OKW. I've been told the Illuminations Cruise boats are pretty much the same. Hopefully, someone who has been on a cruise will post.
Thee pontoon boats are easy to get on. We put DD's manual wheelchair on and off of the boat without a ramp. Previous years, she sat in her wheelchair on the boat. When we rented one last March, they said we could bring the wheelchair on, but she would have to get out and sit on a boat seat. I guess they thought having a guest who was firmly strapped to 35 pounds of metal and a heavy backpack was probably not a good idea on a boat.

I just thought I'd better add that we lifted DD's wheelchair on, but it was not that big of a step.

Thanks Sue,

That is helpful. If we can just get him on & off it there shouldn't be a problem!:)

We took an Illuminations cruise with my mom in May. She has VERY limited mobility. Essentially, she can transfer from her wheelchair to a very stable seat, but that is about it. I was quite nervous about the boat (with the movement), but it was absolutely no problem. We wheeled her wheelchair right on the boat, got it positioned at the right angle, and then she transferred to the seat (which was much like a comfy couch). Then, we stored the wheelchair in the back of the boat.

It was so much better than trying to find a place for our entire party to sit with her so that she (and my 4 year old) could see.

Good luck. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Thank's Leia's Mom,

This is looking better all the time. We didn't do it in Nov. 'coz the info I was given said that there would be a big step up/down. I think I may book it and keep our fingers crossed!!:)
