Who cleans up the debris after your neighborhood/street fireworks celebrations?

My mother owns a lake house that we go to for the 4th. It's great to sit by the lake and watch the fireworks all around the lake.

But, her neighborhood also has something of an HOA. Dues are paid yearly and with paying those dues you get access to the lot owned by the association(which happens to be right next door to my mom's). This is a big lot and there are some grills, picnic tables, a boat launch and public swimming area. This lot is also gated with a locked gate. You must pay your dues to get a new key every year.

Well, as you can imagine, lots of people bring their friends and family and go down there for the holiday.

The assocation President and her husband have in the past always cleaned up the next day. They also were paid monthly to mow this lot and the lot entering the neighborhood. They gave up on the mowing recently when her husband retired. He also didn't want the job of clean up this year.

So, the board voted, and they charged everyone $5 per person(on top of their dues) to use this lot for the holiday. They did this so that they could pay someone to come in and clean up the following day.

So instead of them going down there and spending an hour to clean up, they sat down at the lot, by the gate from about 2 pm till just after 10 pm collecting the $5 per person fee.

My pain in the XXX neighbor shoots off fireworks every July 4th. They are completely illegal in NJ but that doesn't stop him. Besides that, he never cleans anything up. He leaves the street a mess, littered with debris. Some of the crap even flies into my yard so I'm forced to clean up after him. I have dogs and don't want to risk them eating anything they shouldn't. I've addressed it with him and the police. No one seems to care. Apparently, when you are the chief of the local volunteer fire company, it gives you a pass on those pesky fireworks laws! :sad2:

And before anyone flames me over being a volunteer fireman, my DF was a volunteer for over 30 years and never once felt the need to break the laws or act recklessly. My stupid neighbor is just that - Stupid! They get drunk at their party, set off fireworks and then get in the cars and go tearing up the local street to answer fire calls. :headache: And did I mention that one year he shot them off at another neighbor's home and actually set his roof on fire.
