I did a search on this, but wasn't finding what I'm looking for (although I swear the search button hates me on forums like this...anyway):

For those of you who have watched fireworks from the top level of Mickey and Friends, has fallout ever landed on/near you, and did the smoke envelope you?

We're talking about nuisance in my torts class right now, and of course someone brought up the fireworks at DL, so I want to be able to defend my beloved DL and fireworks to the best of my ability, while knowing what I may have to concede a few points.

Thanks!

I've seen it from up there and nothing of the sorts has happened to me :confused3. It is really close to where they launch the fireworks though, so I wouldn't be surprised if any light fallout occurred or something similar. The only bothersome thing to me was that it was extremely loud!! :scared1: Maybe I'm just sensitive :rotfl:

The most smoke I've ever experienced was watching F! Why did watching from atop M&F's come up for a nuisance action?

M&F garage is almost the same distance as it is to the castle from where the high elevation fireworks are launched. It's a little further to residential areas over I5. Neighborhoods to the North are even closer.

I've never noticed those fireworks falling near me when I've watched the shows. I think if debris was falling in the nieghborhoods there would of already been lawsuits.

Using a simple analysis with physics I doubt it's likely.

In particular Disney doesn't do the show in strong wind.

Second fireworks are not missles they are mortars shot like a cannon. They rise vertically in the same amount of time it takes to fall. That is, half the time they go up half the time down.

If thier lateral speed is constant from a sustained gust and they move west, in the half of the time when they reach their peak and explode has anyone seen them half way to the M&F garage?

It didn't. A classmate mentioned reading an article about the fireworks and how neighbors were complaining about the noise, smoke, etc., and how that related to what we were discussing. I've never parked up there, so I didn't know if there was a ton of fallout on cars afterwards or not that people could complain about, since it was so close to the launch site.

DL has 2 viewing areas for the fireworks Main Sreet and over by It's A Small World.

Several of the Harbor Blvd Hotels have roof top viewing areas for the Fireworks, Desert Inn and Suites being one!! And the Carousel Inn and Suites, too.

I don't know if this helps.

I was just curious what your classmates were arguing. My friends and I used to shoot the breeze a lot in law school. I'm sure Disney has gotten flack about it in the past. I know they upgraded to an air launch system to cut down on the smoke. Living smack against the I-5 is probably worse for residents than any fireworks fallout.

So many times I've though the same thing when nearby residents complain of noise from DLR. If I was buying a house and wanted quiet I wouldn't be that close to a major freeway.

Ah, there wasn't any argument, just that we were talking about public nuisances, and he remembered reading about the fireworks and how people complain they aren't environmentally friendly. If I found the correct article, it's from about 2003, and we all know Disney's doing better environmentally now. Then, we started discussing what social value fireworks had, their suitability to the locality, etc., and I got really fired up about defending the magic and memories, haha.

Then, someone asked about liability for a firework not going off correctly and killing a person by falling on their head - they knew it was unlikely, but that made me wonder what the top of the structure was like, because I thought that if that one in a billion fireworks death occurs, it would be there because it's so close to the launch site. I know we're going to talk about it again, and I want to know both sides of the argument (because I'm obviously pro Disney ).

I think because as we know FL is cleared because of launches from the castle, and the major firework are launches from the back stage area, that most likely a dud would come down on an employee rather than a guest. So it really is an employee safety issue.

IT's a great place to watch fireworks!! but the only thing is .. no music and soundtrack just fireworks and oh maybe some car alarms going off.. other then that it's good spot! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I think that the fireworks are not the most public nuisance the Maliboomer Ride Paradise Pier in California Adventure is!! Disney had to Add Scream Guards over the heads of the riders so that the residents wouldn't sue Disney!! And now Disney is taking the Maliboomer Ride out of the park entirely!!

I've heard from friends that are CMs that there is some fallout on the Cast Member parking structure. The CMs know to leave before the fireworks or they don't leave until AFTER the fireworks.

Dh and I went to the 4th of July Fireworks at our county fairgrounds. Everyone was in cars and they were parked by the Fire Department. We came a little late and were parked in the very front row! We got of the car to sit on the hood of the car. They set off the first set of Fireworks as we were oooh and aweing, the hot fallout starting falling on us!! We hurriedly slide off the hood and jumped back in the car slamming the doors shut!! They stopped the show and moved the fireworks futher away from the cars!!

I still like fireworks but the back row is fine now!!! Even at Disney!!

If there were any risk of fallout at the roof of M&F, Disney would limit access to that area during fireworks, as they do with Toontown and parts of Fantasyland. Take iasw for example. Sometimes it is open during fireworks, sometimes it is not. Why? Wind and potential fallout from fireworks. If there is any chance of fallout, Disney limits access. The simple fact that the roof of M&F is never restricted during fireworks indicates that there is not a danger of fallout from fireworks.

The CM parking structure is within 100ft of the launch site. That's not terribly surprising.

what dreams said is right..

I have never had my hair catch on fire from fallout from fireworks at M&F :rotfl::rotfl2: but on a serious note, they do the fireworks over an area that if any fallout was to fall then it's not a problem. the parking structure top level to watch fireworks is safe..
