On our next trip to DL, we would like to see the fireworks right in front of the castle. Is that possible? Is that area only for VIPs?

There are certain area reserved, but right in front of the castle is open. You can be right in front with no one but a CM directing traffic in front of you.

Fully possible. Just be aware that, like the PP stated, there will be "traffic" in front of you. In between the roped off viewing area and the castle is a walkway that will have people walking on it the whole time. Though there are CM's in this walkway continuously yelling "this is not a standing/viewing area, you need to move along" people will still stop and stand, take pictures, try to sit down and block you in general. We loved being right up against the rope, the view was amazing, but having people constantly moving, yelling, and arguing with CM's right in front of us was beyond distracting and I don't think we would bother again. But I think it's a "must do once" type deal.

You can stake out a spot on the curb near the top of the street's loop. Anywhere on the street in the center is prime viewing. But you'll have to get there waaaaay early. I snagged a spot on a bench in the circle once about an hour and a half before showtime only to have the show canceled due to high winds. :P

The reddish sidewalk in front of the castle is a designated no stopping zone and the open area on the castle side of that zone is roped off. The center section of the circle in front of Walt's statue and the walkway from that area to the street are reserved. At least they have been every time I've been in the area during fireworks.

Just like what the pps said about getting a spot in front of SB castle, guests like to get a bench (not the one reserved for the VIP) right around the hub. The guests stake out a spot for hours, I would say around 2-3 hours before the fireworks start. You can a spot in front of SB castle around an hour in the street.

Thank You! Thank You! We had the same thing happen to us at a concert. We had outstanding seats right up front, but as soon as the concert started, the lights went down, and the security walked up and down in front of us with flashlights guiding and moving people out of the aisle. Outstanding seats turned to BAD in just a few seconds! If you hadn't mentioned the CM's working crowd control during fireworks, I would have camped out to get an up front spot. Thank you again, we'll be moving back to our Mainstreet area for sure!

What is the VIP seating area for the fireworks? I have never heard of this area or how to reserve this area before.

They have rows of benches in front of the Partners statue right by the hub going north of the walkway toward SB castle. Back in the early days I have been wondering why those benches are left untouch. I talked to a CM and asked why they won't let the guests sit on the benches and said they are for the VIPs only. I heard it is only for the guests who do the VIP tour and maybe for Club 33 members (I'm not sure about that. Someone needs to clarify that part.)

They also have benches reserved at the top of the MS RR station.
