Heading to the Fort on the 8th and I was wondering if anyone there, or anyone who just left noticed if there is a current firepit ban? Just bought dad a new covered, portable firepit for Christmas for hanging out by the RV. Hoping to enjoy some frosty beverages by the fireside with DH and parents!

I don't know what's official, but we've been here since the 13th and have seen a lot of them. Several evenings have been too warm to make them effective, but it's supposed to be in the low 30's at night for a week or so starting tomorrow.

When I was there 2nd week of December, the ban was posted at the comfort station on the bulletin board. However, I think that stays up 365 days a year. Supposedly, they are allowed if not dry season (whenever that is in Florida) as long as the pit has a fully screened cover. That being said, I saw sites using them while I was there, covered and uncovered. I suppose you would have to call and ask.

I have a 'Little Red Campfire' which is a LP powered 'campfire in a can' style fire pit. From what I understand those are not allowed as it is 1. LP powered and 2. has no screen cover. I would think these would be safer as it it not that big a fire, no sparks and can be instantly shut off.

But, Disney rules is rules! Enforced or not, they get to make them, it's their property.

Signs at all the bus stops say no fires right now.

Add that to the list of ignored rules.

Checked today no ban on firepits at the present time. But as usual that could change from one cm to another cm

last night Asian Jason came to MrsGus' site where they had a firepit going. He was making sure it had the screen cover on.

Sign at the bus stop says no fires. CM says it's ok. No wonder so many "rules" are broken.

The signs we saw at the bus stops and comfort stations were so faded, it was obvious they had been up a very long time.

I might obey that rule if it was obvious it were current. For example - if it had a date on it.

we took our fire pit, but never had a chance to use it. Next time!

We have had a fire every night sent Nov. 1st and never had anyone say anything to us

We didn't find out till we left last year that we could have had a covered fire pit at our site...bringing one this March for sure!!! So nice to have a fire at the site....:woohoo:

I think the fire ban is about making a fire pit in the ground. And yes, I've seen those ban signs up since we started camping there.

But i've seen people turn the grill into a fire pit and sit around that. I wouldn't see why a fire pit would be a problem when they allow for grills, and they do proprane tank fill ups at the meadows.

No - the fire ban is in regards to open fires - even in the grills. It's been in place since early in the 2000's. When we were there the first week in November - we saw "Mean Moe" (Mean Gene's replacement) tell several campers to douse their fires.

I for one, am glad they have it in place. I'd hate like hell to see what havoc a fire in Ft. Wilderness would cause. Can you imagine?

People drunk golf cart driving is havoc enough, don't you think?

Thanks guys! Looking at weather.com, I am sure we will be using it. 34 degrees in Clearwater tonight so I hope all at the Fort are keeping warm tonight!

My husband has replied to this but I wanted to add my 2 cents worth....:rotfl: The signs I saw stated no open fires due to the "dry" weather. There was nothing mentioned about the fire pits. However, after all the rain we had from Dec. 13 til we left on January 1, I think nothing there is dry now.

I am seriously thinking of getting us one before next year.
I love the one my son has. My only problem is finding a space to carry it (the 12' trailer is getting too small for the golf cart and the dozens of boxes) or a place to use it
after I put up ALL the Christmas decorations. :santa:

caucasian Donnie is right, I was there and Jason only gave it a brief glance to make sure the cover was on it. He did however spend a few more minutes with our inconsiderate neighbors.......:lmao:

It was relaxing and expensive despite the fact that we only went to the MK one night, other than that we sat over at Gus's place and ate like hogs.

:rotfl2: I told my hubby that when it's time for him to retire he can go to the happiest store on earth (wallyworld) and get fitted for his little blue vest.

Those signs about fire conditions have been up for years. If people can't behave with golfcarts and controlling their own kids at the pool, then should they be allowed to play with fire? But, this week we really are under Fire Weather Watch. Per weather service "A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS... CRITICALLY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES ... WILL CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL"
