I am hoping to see these fireworks in late January. We are a party of 6 so probably can’t squeeze in just 10 minutes before the show. I am willing to invest more time to get a good view in front of the Falcon. But not hours like in front of the castle. Are we allowed to sit on the ground before the show starts? Also has anyone watched from the droid depot area or the First Order cargo bay? How was the view from there?

Yes you can sit until before the show starts. As more people arrive (maybe 15-20 min before), they will ask you to stand so they can move more people into the taped off area.

I've watched from the MF both standing in front as well as sitting up against the back wall. I've also watched from First Order Cargo. I think the MF area is much better, but it is more crowded. If you are watching from First Order Cargo, it is close to the SWGE exit which makes it is pretty easy to make it to the second Fantasmic show after the fireworks.
