Yes, even at Disney there are critters including Fire Ants. I had my site infested with them, was eaten up talking to TnBob and his wife while there after Labor Day (Hi TnBob)!

I had some Maxx Ant Baits I keep in the trailer to ward off ant infestations. They are little plastic pyramid type things with ant bait/poison in them. I placed one on the trail where the ants were, by the next day...GONE! The ants had built a little fort out of coquina shells around the trap (not sure why, guess to mark their find) and I saw them carrying the bait off in little tiny bits to the nest.

I did this again on the way home at O'leno State Park, same problem, same result. Little fort of sand around and on the bait station and the next day no ants!

Of course I collected the bait when leaving at both sites and disposed of properly so please lets not start a debate about my dog/child might get ahold of these, it was placed ONLY on my site in one spot where I had an issue getting in and out of the camper. But I can say they worked great.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the tip. I will put these on my shopping list.
I got torn up by Fire Ants at the Drag Strip in Bradenton last November.
I don't think that we have Fire Ants in Pennsylvania.

Death to Fireants!!!

My understanding was they were accidentally introduced into our country years ago by the Dole fruit company through the port of Mobile. I guess they had a few hitch hikers.

I've learned to be extra careful taking the dogs out on the 300 dog walk. LOADS of fire ant hills out there and if the grass is a bit long and due to be mowed, you can't always see them easily.

I even have to be careful where the dogs are standing/sitting when we're out there. :headache:

I actually know of people that have ended up in the hospital with bites that have become infected.

I've never seen them on a site or in a loop, but they are along the canals behind the 1500/1600/1900 loops and I would be on the phone to the front desk if I found one on my site since I would think they would take care of that ASAP.

I have found over the years that setting them on fire, dousing them with gasoline, drenching them with ant killer, drowning them with vinegar, causing them to become a chemical reaction with 1/4 stick of dynamite, shooting them with a 9mm only makes them move to another location in my yard and plot harm against me and my family. We try to live in harmony. I walk around them and they don't bite my toes.

Yet!:scared1:

If you get ant bit you can ease the pain and itching by using Listerine mouth wash on the bites. It will also keep them from getting infected and festering. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the tip. Putting these on my list. Wherever we camp we seem to find ants! Hate the little buggers.
