I am looking for feedback from anyone that has had a pedicure on embarkation day. I currently have a appointment for 1:45, the day we board the Magic. My main concern is that my appointment will be during the spa and salon open house. I am wondering if people will be touring the area during my appointment?

Yes. That is during tour time.

Thanks, for your response. Did you still find it relaxing and enjoyable or was it odd having a pedicure while people are touring the area?

I haven't done it (I don't do pedicures because I need the calluses for Taekwondo and no one would listen when I tried). But I have done the spa tour and things are going on, people walking around.

Of course when I do get a manicure it's pretty much in full view as the places in NYC are pretty much storefront operations.

As a rule I don't find the spa things on ships relaxing because there is always the sales pitch (I've tried putting NO SALES PITCH on my form and it never works.)

The issue for me would be that if you plan on going to any of the beaches during your trip, it will ruin your polish. May as well go throw $70 plus tip into the ocean at that point ;) I always get mine on the last day right after we are done with CC. Then the polish last over a month, sometimes 2 months :)

I did it once during embarkation day and was there while we were sailing away. It was a beautiful sight sitting in front of the big glass windows!

As far as having your polish last.....you could always have a pedicure before the cruise and have them use gel polish. Gel polish will last for months!

I did it at 4:30 pm I believe and it was awesome. We started to sail away during and I had great views!
Will do it again next time we go :)

Curious if they have changed how they do the mani/pedi's
MIL and I had pedi's on the Magic back in 2001 or 2002 and I was kind of disappointed. They did a basic soak, massage then polish and it was in a basic seat, which I remember being rather uncomfortable. Polish also chipped a couple days later.

I can get an hour plus deluxe pedi at any of a dozen places by my house for 1/2 the price ($25-$35)with artwork that includes a the pedi, scrub, hot stone massage, parafin treatment and regular massage all in a massage chair. Add $10-15 and you have a manicure too. I usually book a pedi the week before we leave. And they use regular polish and it lasts for until I go again, usually every 2 months.

I might consider doing it on the boat again if they changed what they offer for the price. Would you mind filling me in on what they do now @HappilyEverAfter80 ?

I only did the pedi, the fire & ice version which was the only one available to book in advance.

It was $70 I believe and it was much more than a basic soak and polish. My feet/ legs up to my knees pretty much were wrapped in hot towels following an application of some kind of mask.. there was alternating heat and cooling going on with the pedicure. They used hot stones and cooling gels/lotions. Massaged the feet and legs.
Then applied the polish, it lasted a couple of weeks for me. Maybe you can get shellac too? I just wanted regular. I saw one lady getting the cruise logo painted on, I just wanted plain colour :)
The spa (Fantasy) was great with super comfortable seats and amazing views. The pedi chairs face the ocean.
The fire and ice pedicure was pricey but I really enjoyed it and it lasted 1 hour.
I believe Magic and Wonder had their spas renovated so chances are it has different seats now.

I know I can get the pedi done at home cheaper, but I enjoyed the cruise experience and will probably try this again.

@HappilyEverAfter80 Thank you for taking the time to describe it for me. Now that you go over it I do remember the hot towels way back when.

I still think I will go at home before hand next trip and take a few girlfriends with me. I can take the $50 I save and have some adult beverages at Meridian or put it toward brunch. But will make sure to get a tour of the spa next trip to see what the mani/pedi area looks like.

No problem :) Fire & Ice pedicure is different than the regular one though, it included more massage, mask and hot stones etc. The regular pedi was $45 or $50 if I'm not mistaken but you could only book at the Spa, not in advance online like Fire & Ice. I definitely liked it, but I also like getting it done at home before my cruise :) It's usually when I start to relax and feel like I'm going away soon ;)

My daughter and I do it every trip. We go straight up when we board and make appts. Usually it is between 1 and 2:30. It is during open house, but i feel like the most we have ever seen coming through during that time is maybe 2 folks. They are looking a lot more at the rainforest room and the treatment rooms. You will be fine. Enjoy!
