am trying to figure out which is a better deal, which is good. any thoughts?

Could be urban legend, but I have heard that the Fios people aren't all that discriminating about where they drill through your walls, and have caused a few fires because they hit wires, etc.

Don't know anybody personally that this has happened to, but they have that reputation. Just googled Fios fires and found some things.

thanks...hmmm, will ask around about that and if we go with fios, definitely keep an eye on that

any other thoughts/opinions?

We switched to FIOS from Comcast and have not regretted it for even a second. The install took about six hours and the installer was great. They use the existing cable in your house for the TV portion.

We were constantly losing our internet with Comcast and have not lost it once since we switched to FIOS almost a year ago.

Another FiOS person...

I have had 2 different installs, and the installers were AWESOME! Asked me where everything was going, and they used as much existing wiring as possible, and even cleaned up some of the old wiring!

I will never go back to cable.

Verizon currently has far fewer FiOS customers than Comcast, so they're offering better deals, for now. If you have a chance to, take advantage of it, because a few years from now, once they've gained market share, they'll be providing the same or worse level of service and charging the same or worse prices as Comcast charges.

We have had Verizon FIOS tv/telephone/broadband for about two years and we have been very pleased with it. Installation was quick and problem free. We had scheduled it for a specific day and they called to ask if they could come a couple of days earlier, on a Sunday, and we said fine. They even paid us $50 for the non-existent inconvenience!
The wireless hub failed earlier this year and they came out the same day and replaced it free of charge.
We had satellite tv before (DISH) and the picture disappeared in stormy weather which can be frequent at certain times of the year in Florida.
My only grouch is that new customers are getting the bundle for $50 per month less than we are paying!!

We love our FIOS. We've only had one problem so far, but it seemed to be fixed in a reasonale amount of time.

Another FIOS customer here, we switched over a year ago. No complaints (other than a few billing issues in the beginning...). I found their customer service to be good.

Karenos;)

You will find bad installs with any company. Verizon does has better plans so I would go with that.

the plans are within a dollar of each other, but fios has a one year contract, comcast doesn't. am thinking I might go ahead with comcast and try it. if I don't like it, i can move on to fios. for some reason I'm tempted by fios...not sure why?

I switched from Cablevision to Verizon FIOS here in the New York Metro Area. My major headache was the promise of being able to Move my Phone Number from Cablevision to Verizon. This was not done to some still unexplained technical issue. That was a major issue that almost caused me to switch back, but a deal from customer retention kept me a Verizon Vios Customer. My Cable TV Bill was increasing and My Service was Decreasing. Yes I had the bundle, but the extras were being increased. Gold Package was increased, Premium Channels were increased. Without a contract price increases could be effective any time. Also since the system was saturated, Analog Channels were being converted to Digital. This meant to watch some regular channels a Digital Set Top Box was required, of course this was going to cost another $ 7.00 per month rental.

Verizon FIOs offered more movie channels at the same cost and included On-Demand at no additional Charge for those subscriptions, that reduced the cost by 10.00 per subscription. My cost for FIOs was about $20 per month less than cablevision. I got better service (Clearer Picture), Same Speed Internet Service, Land Line Phone (No IP Phone), and increased Product for TV which was two additional Premium Subscriptions, Additional On-Demand Service, Multi Room DVR, Set Top Boxes for Every TV in the house ( An Increase of 4 Boxes)

So all in all I am a happy FIOs Customer with a new Phone Number
