finger scan

I'm not joking and I think my explanation was quite clear. I know they don't. Creeps being registered sex offenders who would be in parole violation by attending the parks due to the sheer number of children.

You would think registered sex offenders would think twice if there was proof that they attended the park for the day. That is why I said I wish they did run the prints. I know they don't, otherwise we would not have the whole "Man arrested at waterpark" thread.

Mirax

No one needs to give their name when they buy a ticket (unless it's an AP), and they don't collect enough info in the finger scan to positively identify anyone. All they're doing is trying to make sure there's a reasonable probability that the body that's trying to get in with the ticket is the same body that got in with that ticket last time.

Even if they were to start collecting full fingerprints.....Disney is in the entertainment business, not in the law enforcement business. They're not going to be running fingerprint checks on their guests.

In discussing our upcoming trip, I mentioned to my DS (age 26) about the finger scan. This "intrusion" bothered him. He is very much a Libertarian and was really quite annoyed about it. Is he just a paranoid New Yorker or do others find this (in his words) a bit orwellian?

Sorry, but I would have to go with "paranoid."

It's just not that big of a deal.

The "hassle factor" is the one reason I don't like it. I always seem to be behind the person who doesn't know how to use it, or the machine is malfunctioning. It feels like the entire world is streaming past as we wait for the CM to override and let us through. :headache:
Yup. I hate it when I have to wait for it and I hate it when it is me. "Oh, your AP stopped working again - go over to the shack and stand in line to get another one, then come back here and stand in line again."

Between the line to have your things searched and the line for the fingerprints alone, it makes entering the park a big headache.

Used to be that it was kind of exciting - going up, getting your ticket ready, waiting in a short line thinking, "Almost there!!!", zipping through and "WOW, here I am in the park!"

Now it's, "This line.........geez, this is slow...wish I'd gotten in that line...oh, now she can't get the zipper open...now she has to stop for the toddler...good, Dad is tending to him...la, la, la...bored...Geez, it's hot...I wish they'd hurry up...I hate people going through my stuff...Yeah, thanks a lot for rifling through my belongings...

...Now this line...oh, it isn't working...she'll try again...yeah, that's it, put your finger there...and again...my turn...it isn't working, oh hell...now I have to go to the little shack over there...

...and how many lines? This sucks. 'Yeah, my AP isn't working, here it is, with my license...thank you. Any chance you could get me to the front of those lines so I don't have to stand in the same one again? Didn't think so'...

...and so I'm going back over there. Now I stand here. Again. I already waited in this line. Wasn't my fault their stupid stuff doesn't work, but here I am again. Waiting.
...and waiting...
...and waiting some more...
...I put it through and...

...finally. I'm in the park and done with all that crap. Hooray." :rolleyes1

Very anticlimactic. Used to be so much fun.

ITA! That's the only thing that bothers me about it too :headache:

I can see this being closed soon. Somehow the discussion took a turn toward "sex offenders," and it seems like this has been blown way over the top.

Scan your finger, go inside. Not a big deal. :confused3.

We use this type of software at the school I work in for the kids to pay for their meals at lunchtime. That way the bullies can't take the money off the little ones, some of them said they weren't happy to start with but the no fingerscan = no food soon changed their minds!

I have no issue with the fingerscan to get into the parks, just wish getting through US immigration was was easy as getting into the parks - put your finger here, welcome to the USA! ;)

I don't have a problem ith it. Mostly bcuz I don't think its a fingerprint they scan.

Two comments:

1. Before Disney went to the current method the use of the two fingers was actually doing a read of the location of the knuckles to each other.

2. Is there any legal reason that a retired ax-murderer or other "creep" should not be allowed to enjoy WDW?

Even given all the anecdotal tales, I wouldn't get too worked up over it. I used different fingers and sometimes even none at all and I had no problems getting in the first time. That was in mid June of this year and at all parks.

There are lots of stories of getting in with and without using the same finger, different guests swapping tickets, etc.

There are so many different situations that can be affected by time-of-day, time-or-year, internal technical issues with a particular gate, a unique system-wide computer problem, number of tickets purchased at a given time, and even world near-hysteria over communicable diseases.

Yes, everyone has a ticket story, but not everyone has the SAME ticket story.

Disney has chosen to use the finger-scanner for ticket/guest ID.
Expect to encounter it when you visit and...
be sure to remember your story!! ;)

Maybe it's a "New Yorker" thing - LOL.. DD's FIL (New Yorker - upstate) has flat out refused to fly since the TSA put the new rules in place following 9/11.. He has nothing to hide - he's just stubborn like that - considers it a violation of his rights.. So now his poor wife doesn't get to travel anywhere unless they drive for days and days and days..

I have no issue with the finger scan - OR - the TSA rules.. I just want to get to where I'm going as fast as I can..;)

I don't have any problem with it. Then again, my fiance and I used each others cards to get in a couple days and it worked just fine. :thumbsup2 I figure if my finger scan passes for his finger scan, they must not be getting too detailed, so it doesn't bother me. The bag searches don't bother me either.. I open up all my zippers and pockets while I'm in line, slide it down the table, and then away I go! At least you don't have to take your shoes off like at the airport. :goodvibes

As stated probably 5 times in this thread (I've had trouble reading all the posts) tickets purchased together may be grouped together so either person's finger can work.

So you didn't get anything over on Disney.

Heck, when I was in WDW this past March, we couldn't get the finger scan to work on me no matter what park we were at! The CM always had to override it somehow. Worked fine for my husband but not for me! Was a pain in the butt! :confused3;)

The 2nd day I had to use it, I couldn't remember which index finger I had used, because I had pushed our stroller through and wasn't standing directly in front of the machine to use my right finger, which would be the most commonly used. At any rate, I went back and forth between them for a good 5 minutes. The lovely CM at the gate told me to just keep trying, because I wasn't getting in the park until the scanner read a match. Finally, by the grace above, it matched and the gatekeeper allowed me to pass. :rotfl:

There is a way to alleviate your anxiety over the fingerscan. Just don't go. One less person for me to wait in line behind. Personally, I'll show them my birth certificate, job resume, blood type, dna sample and, since he is 19 and still being a pain, I might even give up my first born child, if it gets me into Disneyworld.:rotfl:

This. This, I would do as well.

As others said, the GOVERNMENT ISSUED photo ID is an option. Either way Big Brother has his eye on you. JK. But don't get my father started....

OT.... I cut my finger and had a little bandage on it when I first used my AP last year so I just used my thumb. At AK back in Dec a CM saw me getting ready to use my thumb and tried to correct me. When I told him that my thumb print was what they had on file he said that they weren't supposed to let me do it that way. :confused3 Anyway since then when the scanner lights up for my print I try to do it quickly so I don't have to explain myself. Does anyone know if it really matters which digit you use?

I have used both. I use my thunb because I prefer it for some reason, yes I'm weird.
