$45m more this weekend. $143m in only 10 days. Wow.

Box Office Guru is predicting total domestic cume of $270-290m. Wow.

He says the film has a chance of besting Shrek as #2 animated film of all time behind The Lion King.

Happy to see that my guess ($110 M) was way off! Good for Disney & Pixar. Here's the trivia question for years to come...What was the name of Nemo's mother?

Nemo seems to be picking up steam, it improved everyday this week. Box Office Mojo has it coming in at 30+ Mil this weekend (he's pretty accurate) that would put total over 200 mil on monday or tuesday. Only one film hit 200 mil that fast and did not hit 300 mil and that's the latest Potter Movie.

It realistically could hit 330 mil domestic beating LK. I don't think anyone could have predicted that.

[with eerie waving of fingers] You did not predict it would beat Lion King in this thread... and these are not the droids you're looking for...

Lets not forget Inflation before we start delearing it "The Lion King" ....King

The Lion King Dis. $452,523,409 (Adjusted)

Aladdin Dis. $306,385,250 (Adjusted)

Toy Story 2 Dis. $280,635,307 (Adjusted)

Shrek DW $276,650,232 (Adjusted)

* Adjusted to the 2002 average

After three weekends, "Nemo" has soared to $192.3 million

Uh...that's a quote not my statement. I'll probably see this movie again but even I don't think it will crest the $250 mil domestic box office...unless they leave in the theatres six more weeks.

Hmmm I just re-read the original topic...its gross by labor day...here's the rest of the quote from reuters. I can go with the $300 million estimate by labor day.

Industry observers expect "Finding Nemo" to make about $275 million, with the possibility of $300 million if it does not take too much of a hit when "The Hulk" opens next weekend.

I made this contest too long.

Next major animated feature...let's just guess on the first month's take.

Obviously, I was way off on this one.

BTW, www.boxofficeguru.com says 'Nemo' is a "is a viable candidate to join the triple century club," and that would put...lemme check the records....

Hopemax (at 312) and disneydude (at 290) as projecting to be the most accurate, with D-R close behind if there is a drop-off to Labor Day at 250.

In the defense of my way, way off projection, I quote:
I will make a prediction on a prediction. I predict that my prediction is way, way, too low. Long live John Lassiter et al.

Does that mean I still have a chance at the winner?

...as much of a chance as my meager $110 M prediction!

Boxofficemojo.com has it at 203 million through Wednesday, with Nemo picking up business as the week has progressed. It will losse the top spot this weekend, but there is still absolutely no viable competition in the G-PG range of movies. Rugrats was a disaster. Nemo will be the number 2 animated film of all time before its run is done--you can bank on it.

EUROPA:

I like the adjusted for inflation numbers, but you forgot Snow White, which comes in at $637,650,000, making her and her 7 "friends" the champs at the box office for animated features.

I'm not going to put a number on it but one thing is clear, Nemo is not the typical flash-in-the-pan release. It seems to have developed staying power. Rugrats tanked and although I like the 'rats, I hope this will help keep the television program-to-film projects locked away. I can see the Rugrats anytime, I can't see Nemo but only one place.

I'm glad to see Nemo doing well. The better it does, the better negotiating position Jobs/Lasseter have and the more pressure it puts on Disney to step up.

It's making $5M per day (about) or so for right now and it only loses the top spot on Friday with the latest new release. If it keeps getting the same good buzz, then it could really hang around a long time.

Casual Observer

After Hulk's opening weekend of 62 mil and some pretty diverse reviews, I don't see Hulk sticking around long enough to suck the life out of Nemo. What are the next big openings for the next couple weeks ? Pirates ? T3 is still nearly a month away. I think Nemo will pull very good weekday numbers now that school is out just about everywhere. I think it has a real shot at 350 mil by labor day. It just isn't dropping way off like I thought it would. It has legs.

It appears that my guess was typed incorrectly (darn car#3 thoughts). I just updated to what my true intentions were (well as of now, anyway)...

321.4M

Nemo is now number 18 all time and still going strong, coming in at number 4 in its 40th day of release. It is just about at the 280 mil. mark, set to overtake Home Alone. My guess of $245 by Labor Day was, I thought, on the high side. Did anyone predict $300 plus before it was released?

Yes, as you will see from the chart below for those that got it in under the wire, Hopemax did predict Lion King-like numbers for our fish friends.

You know what is sad? Cou$in Mikey is saying to himself, "See I was right. Close down Feature Animationa and let's just buy 'em up from outside producers."

If you are thinking this right now, Mr. Ei$ner, and I know you are, then you understand the 'what' but you just don't understand the 'why' of the phenomonon.

I'm frankly very surprised but very happy for Pixar. They do know how to make movies, that's for sure. And I'm thinking that Eisner had better lighten up on his demands now.
