Finding Nemo Ride at DL?

Hi all! My mother and I recently visited Disneyland in California and took a Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour while we were there. Our guide made reference to a new ride that may be opening in the park. He said that the submarine lagoon was to be transformed into a Disney movie themed ride and told us to pay careful attention to the font of the writing on the walls put up around that area. Sure enough, it was the same font used in Finding Nemo. Has anyone heard news of this coming attraction, or is it just another wonderful rumor?

Have also heard that it is going to be a nemo ride. With submarines and nemo theme. Nothing can replace Submarine Voyage IMHO. It was by-far my favorite ride as a child and young adult. I'll miss you always.

Hey Pete, how old are your kids? Because I know my children will be much more excited about Nemo then 20,000 Leagues. So in my opinion there is nothing wrong with utilizing an old ride, that we can reminisce about, but is new and fresh to the kids. All of this provided that is done well.

There isn’t a lot of information out there at the moment, but here’s a quick rundown of the various whispers and rumors about the project.

It’s essentially a redress of Disneyland’s ‘Submarine Voyage’ attraction along the lines of turning ‘Alien Encounter’ in ‘Stitch’. Most of the big set pieces will remain: the graveyard of ships, Atlantis, etc. Most of the moving animation – the lobsters, the fish, etc. will be removed to save on maintenance costs. In there place are going large boxes which allow for the projection of computer animated images of Nemo & Friends. There’s no word on the story line yet, other than “let’s go explore the ocean with Nemo”. There are rumors a lot of people are working on this project (the only “big” attraction WDI has going right now) and so there have been a lot of ego’s stepping over each other.

It’s expected this attraction will open for the summer of 2007 as Disneyland’s very successful celebration of WDW’s marketing event draws to a close. In the past Disneyland had opened one major attraction or show every year to keep all us locals interested in going to the park. For a while there was some interest in returning to that way of running the business, but it seems other people now have other plans for the money.

The second big rumor is that these effect boxes will also be used for the new Nemo attraction coming to The Living Seas, Phase Two. This ride will use the store bought, staple-to-the-floor, Omnimover-style ride system used by Disneyland’s ‘Buzz Lightyear’ laid through the old pre-show areas of the pavilion. How close the two attractions will be to each other is unknown, however, Disney builds everything these days in multiple copies to spread out the costs over several parks. I’d suspect the two shows will be roughly the same. If this attraction uses the same show elements as the Disneyland counterparts, it too could open in the summer of 2007.

Remember – these are only rumors. Disney is a huge corporation filled with all sorts of competing interests. Just because something is in the works today doesn’t mean plans won’t change tomorrow.

Thank you all for your information. I have been wondering about this for quite some time now and I hope to see it come full circle. I loved 20,000 leagues as a kid and really miss the ride. Each time I visit both parks it saddens me to see the empty areas. Taking the monarial system at DL isn't as fun when you look down to see all that bare area where the beautiful water used to be. What an eyesore! Even worse, I really hate to see this space covered up and used as a character greeting spot for Ariel and Pooh at WDW. What a waste! Does anyone know if there are plans for doing this same ride at the MK in WDW in the old sub lagoon there? I sure hope so. I would love to get on one of those subs again and relive the memories even if the ride is a bit different.

Well since there is no more lagoon in Fantasyland at WDW, I have to highly doubt this will be built at WDW. There is room for an E-Ticket attraction in the spot where 20,000 leagues previously was at WDW. So a few years down the road there will most likely be a new ride in that location.

I know for a fact that none of the set peices from the original ride remain, it (coral and all) has all been smashed, crunched, hammered and blown to bits (or probably sold to John Stamos). The place behind the walls is now a brown dome with track and the tunnels. It was all rotting though, so Im sure it needed to go.

I go to WDW at least once a year and I had no clue that the lagoon had been filled. When did this untimely event occur and what was the reasoning? Now I am depressed. All my old favorites are not only being replaced, but being destroyed in the process. I miss the old WDW. I guess I'm just being nostalgic, but if they ever take away the Haunted Mansion I will boycot

I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the draining/filling in took place last year, and the Pooh playground opened earlier this year.

Matt's got it right. The draining and clearing process began in April of 2004. We didn't really see any construction on Pooh until early this summer. It opened right before Labor Day weekend.

I'm so disappointed now that I know one of my favorite rides is gone for good...I mean they took one of the best rides and completely destroyed it to replace it with a playground? What a grand decision. Oh well, that's the way the mickey ice cream melts sometimes I guess.

I totally agree. I miss the good rides from when I was little. I still remember my 1st ride on Mr. Toad at WDW. I went back when I was alittle older just to be let down by it's closing. The penny arcade was also one of my favorites that they closed.

I'm not sure where the Art of Imagination building is, but it isn't in DCA. Turtle Talk is located at "Disney Animation" (or The Animation Building" as its called more often by locals.)
