Dislclaimer.
I love my MIL. She shared this tale over Thanksgiving dinner.
My FIL acquired/won/came into possession of two goldfish. One exhibited normal behavior by dying within the usual lifespan of 48 hours. The other, however, lived well beyond the typical life expectancy....so long, in fact, that his little abode needed cleaning.
Apparently this dirty little bowl bothered MIL (along with the fact that FIL wouldn't change the water), so while he was out, she decided to clean the bowl.
Not knowing where to place little goldie while cleaning the container (don't know what they had named the fish, but this will do), she decided that since the toilet was clean, why not place him there while she changed the water in the bowl. I'm not making this up. She went so far as to put warm water and even fish food in the toilet, placed goldie into his temporary residence, and turned her attention to the dirty bowl.
According to her, goldie was having a great time in the toilet bowl, swimming circles in the white porcelain basin. I think she said he was smiling....
Really...I'm not making this up, and I love my MIL.
So MIL finishes the cleaning, refills the bowl with clean fresh water, and turns back to the toilet to 'fish' out goldie and return him to his home.
OH NO! goldie is gone!!!
Apparently goldie realized that all water leads to the ocean and decided to make a break for it. Perhaps the smile was the realization that freedom was just down that hole and ...whooosh, I coming home mama....
we'll never know.
So if any of you dis'ers see a happy gold fish by the name of goldie, smiling and swimming down stream in the NC area, wave, wish him luck, and know that another fish has made a break for freedom.
I wonder if Disney could make a movie out of this?

Oh. My. Gosh! Chances are Goldie would have died anyway after being removed from the toilet and returned to his bowl. You aren't supposed to use soaps & things to clean fish bowls/tanks. Surely, the toilet has had tons of chemical cleaners that would have caused it to die.

Goldfish grow too large and are too messy of fish to be kept in a bowl. That's one reason they tend to die quickly. They are better suited for a pond. Maybe Goldie made a jump for it. He could be stuck to the floor behind the toilet.

Poor fishey/fishie...how should I spell that anyway?...LOL.

:lmao:

Why do I get the picture of her "accidently" pushing that little button on the side of his new swimming hole? :lmao:

BWAHAHAHAHAHH!!! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Thanks for the laugh!! :teeth:

poor goldie! we won goldfish at a fair when i was a young teen. our in-ground pool had a leak and we weren't using it so there were no chemicals in it. we put the goldfish in the pool and over a year later had to fish them out to fix the leak. the darn things were HUGE, about 2-3 feet each!! and all 3 lived. we took them to a local pond and set them free.
