finding dory

Parents of special needs kiddos really should go see Finding Dory!Baby dory is too cute for words, but she is also disabled. Disney does an amazing job showing how dorys parents help young dory cope with her memory loss; they do role playing, teach her cute rhymes that are easy to remember, and other techniques that I won't mention so I don't spoil things too much. It does it very realistically; most movies with disabled kids it shows the parents as tragic heroes/martyrs and the kids as extraordinarily special and wise beyond their years. Dory shows a normal kid and normal parents who justh appened to be dealing with a disability. My family/,friends think it's a cute enough movie but couldn't appreciate this aspect of it. Anyone else seen it?

We enjoyed the movie, and I also noticed that about the parents and Dory.

I agree they do a good job showing supportive parents for Dory. However, parents of adoptive/foster kids may want to review the plot before deciding to take their kids. It could lead to a lot of questions or misplaced feelings.

What i liked is that her parents adapted the environment to her, rather than treating her like she was always an infant. They helped her learn the tools to be able to find her way home. I liked that part.

They presented characters with all kinds of disabilities, and they all have different personalities. They are not all sweetness and light - some are grumpy, some are serious. They avoided the stereotype of the "adorable, inspirational disabled kid."

I agree!! My son has autism and them trying to teach Dory to do things in a repetitive fashion seemed so familiar to me. very cute movie my son loved it.

As a Mom whose daughter has cerebral palsy, I also loved the realistic way that they handled Dory's issues. Really did enjoy the film.
