I actually really liked it and thought it was a cute movie with a good message. That said, it must have bored a lot of people because the amount of phones and talking during the movie in the theater where I was was ridiculous.

That's why I no longer go to cinemas except on RARE occasions (TCM's big screen classics series with REAL movie fans)

I understand that the movie was written to convey messages about living with disabilities and how family can include those you aren't related to, by blood, but for those that saw it with children, do you feel they got the message? I saw fidgety kids and some parents left with them.

We are big fans of Finding Nemo but find most sequels disappointing. We all loved Finding Dory! It wasn't as good as Nemo but we laughed and enjoyed the story line. My kids are adults and loved it. Not sure what their enjoyment level would have been if they were little kids. I didn't notice a single person leave during the movie, though.

Just got home. I think the disability thing went completely past my kids. Other than one part ***where it seemed someone was impatient with Dory for her memory loss and got angry *** (hope that isn't a spoiler...it isn't a major plot point) I didn't feel it was dark so much. I felt the overall message was good and positive. I missed about 1/4 of the movie due to ushering kids back and forth to the bathroom. So my review is based on only having seen 75% of the movie. But that part seemed pretty good.

We went at 4:30 in the afternoon yesterday. There's was hardly anybody else in the theater. I didn't notice any children. And I was far to engrossed in the movie to pay attention to what other people were doing.

I saw it yesterday with a group of girls in their twenties, and we all loved it! I'm by far the biggest Disney fan of the group, and I thought it was an adorable movie. Like some other posters, Finding Nemo wasn't my favorite, but I did enjoy this movie. No one left the theater and kids seemed really well behaved. Compared to Inside Out, it definitely wasn't as "heavy" or dark. I will say Zootopia has been my fave Disney movie in awhile, but I'd still say Finding Dory is worth seeing.

Me too! Getting tickets for Planet Of The Apes in July, it's my dad's Father's Day gift. We both LOVE the originals!

I was disappointed but my five year old liked it. I found the memory loss stuff to be depressing. I recently read Still Alice which is about early onset Alzheimer's and it reminded me too much of that! And Marlin was flat out mean, boy he's not really a likeable character. And it was just so far fetched with all the moving around outside the water. It wasn't horrible but in the grand scale of Disney movies it was slightly below average.

We saw it at a 5:30 showing yesterday at a Silverspot theater with cushy seats.
The audience was probably 2/3 full and we were very concious of what types of people came in.
Lots of families with small kids, a few young people on dates, a group of 20-something guys, a group of 40-something women, a couple older couples (no senior citizens though) and our little family group DH, me, and DD20.
We liked the movie, didn't love it. We don't usually go to Disney and Pixar movies in the theaters now that our kids are grown so this was a treat. (we like to do action movies at the theater on the big screen).

Favorite scene.....the whole truck sequence!

We loved it. My dd19 (who loved the original!) later pointed out all of the places where facts were bent (fresh v. salt water, etc.) Of course, she never mentioned the biggest one. The fact that animals can talk, lol.

However, I think Piper, alone, was worth the price of admission. If you're into cute, that is.

Sigh, TCM is the only thing I miss when we shut our DTV off for the summer. Netflix/HULU/Prime really do NOT have a lot of classic movies!

I just saw it today and LOVED it! I laughed and cried throughout - haven't done that since I saw Up, which is probably my all time favorite Pixar movie.

Inside Out was one that I felt was overrated and kind of boring.

I took my 10-yr-old son today and we both liked it. We really liked Hank, the octopus (or as my son keeps reminding me, the "septopus"). I personally didn't get any connection about it being about people living with disabilities. We enjoyed the storyline. Nemo isn't one of my all-time faves, but I found Dory pretty much stood alone. I did like how some aspects of Dory's character were explained by the movie and loved how her parents never stopped hoping and waiting for her to return.

If you haven't already heard, make sure you stay through the very very end of the credits for a fun Nemo tie-in. We loved it.

As far as other recent Disney movies go, I didn't see Zootopia (my husband did that one) so I can't say if it's as good as, or how they're different. I did see Inside Out last year and I liked it. There were some sad parts and I teared up in spots as I recognized how my own children are growing and leaving things behind. (No more Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, no more visits to Santa...) I didn't feel like Dory was sad, really. I never teared up or felt sad. Like I always told my sons when they were little and scared at a Disney movie: "It's a Disney movie - it's always going to work out in the end."

I have one other question.
Dory is going off to find her parents, right?
I am going to assume that due to circumstances, and her disabilities, it is like she never knew her parents.
The original move ended in Australia, and I am thinking Dory's parents are at California.

Does anybody have any thoughts about how this movie might play for a kid who was adopted thru international adoption.
Maybe they are getting old enough to wonder about their bio-parents, where they came from, etc...

If you are on Facebook, check out the group "Humans of Foster Care." They did a review of the movie and how it upset a child who was older when he was adopted. A few people have responded that their Foster/adopted children also struggled with the movie.
My foster daughters are only 2.5, so I'm safe with it for now. But I'm glad I read that review, because we were supposed to also have a six year old for the weekend and were considering going, and I would have felt horrible if the movie had upset him.
ETA I know you said international adoption, but thought this may help you see points not brought up here.

We saw it yesterday and loved it!! My youngest DS has a learning disability and is adopted and he didn't have any issues with the storyline. It was the Despicable Me movies that had him asking questions about his adoption.

I was pleasantly surprised by Zootopia. Thought I'd hate it, but it was pretty good. Still have never seen Inside Out and have no desire to.

We've seen it twice already and loved it!!! My husband and oldest liked it better than Finding Nemo and the rest of us found it VERY CLOSE!

I can't say if I liked it more or less than Finding Nemo, but I certainly enjoyed it. For someone with horrible memory, I have come to realize Dory is my spirit animal lol.
