Find Your Own "Directive" - the February Weight Loss / Life Style Change Challenge

Hopefully I've done this right: 211 at the start of Feb - 202.3 today... so 4.13% for the month?

Not quite. You'll take the overall goal (ie: Lose 5 pounds for the month) and you lost lets say.. 2 pounds. 2/5 is 40% :)

I have no idea what that is for you -- so uh, at your earliest convenience just fill in the details for you and you got it!

Current favorite meals:

Pan searing a couple pieces of wild salmon or pan searing some pre-cooked prawns. I've got some olive oil that is infused with orange and some lime sea salt I got from the spice store at Disney Springs that both add a nice flavor. I'm a baker not a cook, so cooking for myself is very new.

As for me, I fell off track a little with my exercising goals this week. I'm going to blame it on a post-Disney funk mixed with being exhausted from our weekend away. The good news is I am going to my favorite yoga tonight. There is an awesome local teacher that does a class every few months at the this super swanky spa. There's an hour and a half of yoga followed by 2 hours of using the spa facilities. It is the most amazing and refreshing evening. I can't wait!!!

I am so jealous right now - a spa day sounds absolutely magical right about now.

If you work at a desk, i did find this great video that gives you 5 minutes of Yoga. I am doing this like 5 times today. Her entire series of Yoga For Beginners is great.

OK, second try:
Start 211 - goal for month 199.9 for 9.9 pounds
Current 202.3 for 8.7 pounds lost .... 87% of goal

I've got some olive oil that is infused with orange and some lime sea salt I got from the spice store at Disney Springs that both add a nice flavor.

This sounds delicious! I will have to look for this next time we are there.

@courtneybeth, LOVE that video-- I do work at a desk and could def use something like this during the day! Thank you for sharing!

So I've somehow managed to injure my leg :( It's my thigh and it doesn't hurt when I put weight on it but when I take weight off (so like shifting weight from one hip to the other) does hurt. It's not really bad at all but I'm afraid that if I push it then I could create a stress fracture (which I've had in my foot before) and I don't want to do that! So for the next week and this weekend I'm going to spend some cross training on the bike :sad1: It's sad when I feel like I'm finally starting to make some gains and get into the running groove but I'm still far enough out from my first race that if I take a week off now then it won't be a problem. So today is a boohoo Friday.

Sorry to hear about your leg - it is frustrating when these things interfere with a goal - rest it and I hope you can get back to running soon.

Hi friends! I'm at work today, but they are keeping me busy! My weigh-in this morning was VERY disheartening. I KNOW I'm eating under my calories.... struggling with that daily. And I would understand NOT LOSING... but gaining??? WTH??? Definitely working on it. Will peek at the scale again in the morning hoping for at least a maintain for the week. BBL to chat I hope!....................P

You give all of us so much encouragement so here is some coming back to you - you are a very busy lady by the sounds of your posts, if you are eating too far under your calories is it possible your body is thinking 'hang on I need to hold on to some of that for energy' ? Are you sleeping well? Just trying to think of some of those other factors that affect weight loss apart from food and exercise :scratchin. Hugs  to you and I hope you have some movement before check-in on Sunday and a good next week.

Started the week at 206 --- currently at 202.3

Awesome loss - well done :cool1:

Wins this week: I brought my breakfast and lunch to work with me every day. This is significant on several levels... first I planned ahead and had the food in the house, then I cooked each night and got things ready, and lastly I actually remembered to bring it with me

Well done - I am also usually disorganised when it comes to taking food from home. But I have a goal to bring food from home to work this year for 2 reasons healthier food and saving money as I am also is debt dumping mode this year.

It's Friday so I weighed myself and I lost all the weight I gained last week. I'm back to 212 which is two lbs of my 5 lbs goal--40%

Yeah that's great :thumbsup2

Official check-in ... still at 0%
I'll probably end the month higher than I started it. Oh well, I know it's entirely my fault, nothing I can do now to change everything I've done wrong over the past three weeks.

I Sarah - you are not alone at 0% - I gained back my loss from the first week in time for last check-in and the numbers really haven't moved so I am expecting this week to be the same. You can change what you do today and tomorrow - even if it just one thing (big or small) that will help with your goals.

Week 3
Weight Loss: 1/5 pounds
Percentage: 20%

While I've had a 1.5 inch reduction on my hips, I've apparently gained a pound! I spoke with my trainer about it and she said it's normal to see this when we're building muscle.

So ... I think I may go back into maintenance mode for awhile. I keep wavering back and forth. I like how 147 is wearing on me. And the muscle too. :P

SIX MILE RUN TOMORROW MORNING. Who is with me? :yay:

Uggh. So far, not a good day. We ran out of breakfast foods at home, so I skipped it (which I said I wouldn't do, but did). I was running errands and was hungry, so I stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a cup of coffee. I got a medium french vanilla coffee with milk and sugar. I logged it in MFP and I was shocked at the nutritional count! Talk about lots of calories with no nutrition. Remind me never to get one of those again!

Meanwhile, I'm the manager of an academic team for my daughter. School let out at noon so we held practice here today. One of the other moms dropped off boxed mac and cheese and cheese pizza for the kids to have for lunch. I fixed that for the kids, but there was no time to fix anything for me - so a cheese stick and a handful of goldfish crackers became my lunch.

"Grab and go" snack-like meals is an old bad habit of mine. I'm so mad that I didn't take a little longer to make myself something more substantial, filling and nutritious.

Too many empty calories today - the day before weigh in. Not good, not good, not good.

Must turn things around for dinner and fix something with lots of protein.

:yay:Note: the 6 mile run has been pushed back to Sunday should anyone want to join @flvy and I in running. We're both obviously doing 6 miles, but any distance (1 mile or 100 miles) is awesome and gets you started on the path to a great week. :yay:

Question of the Weekend - February 20-21

Let's talk... EPCOT's Flower and Garden Festival

On weekends we take a break from the weight-loss chat and focus on an aspect of Disney Parks. This week's focus is on the
Flower and Garden Festival held annually at EPCOT. If you've ever been to EPCOT in the Spring time, you should be familiar
with the themed topiaries and yummy treats in the World Showcase, plus concerts and other programs through the months.

Share with us your experience(s) with the Flower and Garden Festival.
Favorite topiary? Favorite food? Favorite part?
If you haven't been, do you plan on going?
If you've been and hated it, what didn't you like?

Weighed in and still managed to lose a pound! Quite surprised considering that yesterday I was working on a big project at work from 12-5 and they brought in pizza and GIANT cookies. But I didn't a ton of walking around, hauling boxes, etc. So this week I'm 114% to goal!

Because I ate all of my fit points and weeklies and still managed to lose I think I'll conduct a similar experiment next week to see how it goes. 1 pound is much more manageable for me than 3-4. It'll be easy for me to to do that this week because I won't be able to work out as much and I'll have a few dinners/lunches off my normal routine.

Flower and Garden is one of my favorite Disney events. I really honestly feel like Epcot should look like that all the time. F&G was also my first interaction with Disney World as an adult so it'll always hold a very special place in my heart. I liked the food stalls more than the ones at W&D (maybe because I didn't have to wait a half hour in each one) and the butterfly tent is awesome. It really makes the park even more magical than it already is.

I could spam pictures for days of this event, and cannot wait to be there for it again this year. It's really Epcot at it's best and most beautiful.

I'm going to echo @courtneybeth if anyone wants a little fitness motivation and accountability feel free to join us and push yourself tomorrow. I don't care if you're doing 10 jumping jacks just commit and get it done!

Thanks.... I needed that hug! Overall I sleep well (other than last night.... I think the coffee I bought at 8pm was NOT a decaf, as ordered!).

It seems so interesting to me that losing weight and losing debt and/or losing clutter seems to go hand in hand with many people! Mental baggage, body baggage, house baggage..... all related in some way I suppose!

AMEN! We will all try to do at least ONE LITTLE THING to end February successfully, even if the scale doesn't show it!

It takes practice to get used to having something healthy and OP handy all the time. I ended up needing to remind myself sometimes that a "meal" doesn't have to look like a dinner plate with meat, potatoes, greens. A healthy meal CAN look like an apple, a cheese stick, and a smoothie......... or pretzels, hummus, and a banana. Swap out those goldfish crackers for an apple and I think you would have felt differently about that "grab and go" lunch. So what are you doing this weekend to change things?

Are we doing a challenge on Sunday? How did I miss this? Hmmm..... that might be enough to motivate me to REALLY move tomorrow!

Well.... I've been to the F&G two or three times.... but not intentionally. I took a Mother/Son trip in 2010, a Mother/Daughter trip in 2011, and another Mother/Daughter trip in 2013 that were all in May.... so they coincided with F&G, but just by coincidence. So while I enjoy the atmosphere, I'm not looking specifically for the F&G things.

In the effort of full disclosure..... I didn't realize that there were any special foods associated with the F&G Festival! As much as I love food, I am not what you would consider a Disney Foodie. I have eaten in VERY FEW of the TS restaurants. I prefer to spend my very brief and precious Disney time on rides and meeting characters. Spending an hour or two in a restaurant feels like a HUGE waste of time to me..... but that is JUST my opinion.... and I have no judgement of other folks who think differently.... because when they are sitting in a restaurant for 2 hours, that is LESS PEOPLE IN LINE for the rides!

The butterfly garden is always beautiful. I loved the Mike and Sully Monsters University topiaries.... but I couldn't get a decent picture in front of it because it was crowded with people most of the time.

Well.... I tried to share a few pictures but the Mother/Son photopass picture was too large a file to upload (and I have no clue how to change that) and I couldn't find a decent one that represented the F&G Festival of DD and I.... we don't stand still long enough to get good pictures I guess!

Anyhow, the festival and beautiful and I like the topiaries and all.... but I don't think I'd make a trip to WDW just specifically for that.

Ok I have nothing for the question of the weekend - never been to WDW and probably won't get there.

However - off topic I just ordered a new phone case its Disney related its pretty cute http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Walt-Dis...one-Case-Cover-/181559414917?var=480516994697

Have a great weekend everyone good luck with your progress reports for Sunday :thumbsup2

NEVER say never! You never know when there might be Disney in your future! The phone case is great!

*************************

Hey friends! Drove the men to robotics today because we are going to a movie together later..... Deadpool. Yes, I am a TERRIBLE MOTHER, letting my 18 year old DS see this "R" rated movie.... but as much as I do not really WANT him to see it, at 18 years old I need to let him make his own decisions (well, at least some of them). I am going along because it seemed better to make it a family event.... at least that way if it is REALLY objectionable, I can talk to him about it later. He knows I disapprove on many levels. In fact, the idea of spending $8 on a movie ticket for MYSELF to see a movie I don't really want to see is kind of killing me.

The men are talking about going for burgers either before or after the movie, so I'm trying to decided how my food will go for the rest of the day. I don't think I should have movie popcorn AND french fries AND a burger. I know they are talking about going to Five Guys and they don't have a veggie burger or salad option. Fries AND movie popcorn just seems like a salty carby load to eat all in one day. I think I'll pop my own popcorn here at home (this is what I usually do these days for movies) and bring it along with a seltzer from home..... 5 SP of a fat-free healthier-but-still-yummy popcorn treat.... then a small portion of fries... half of a "small" is 8 SP. That would be OVER a meal's worth of SP for me without any protein. Hmmmm.... in the past I've gotten a Chipotle salad or a Wendy's salad and carried it into Five Guys ..... may have to do that again.

Any ideas? Maybe I should try to talk them into skipping the Five Guys all together? I doubt that will work. I think if we go into the town that has the Chipotle near the Five Guys, I 'll get a Chipotle salad bowl (with guacamole as an extra treat!) and skip the fries and the burger. If we end up elsewhere I will have to adjust my plan. The other Five Guys has a Boloco near it so I could get my favorite salad bowl from there...... OKAY... that's the plan! Salad bowl from SOMEWHERE, no fries (okay... well maybe just 2 or 3 ;) ), homemade popcorn treat, seltzer. That may leave me enough SP to enjoy a few M&Ms!!

Thanks for bearing with me while I hashed that out!

Off to be productive!..............................P

pjlla... I've been taking probiotics, drinking bone broth (the little 8 oz containers are 9g of protein and 0 WW points), trying to eat fermented foods (really don't like fermented but they say it's really good for you), and now the elimination diet. My Dr. gave me the book 'Passionate Nutrition' to read, and she's high on cooked food, not raw, so I try to follow that as well. It's all working... the food sensitivities don't manifest as digestive issues as much but do cause other things. I now know I also have to take out chicken: I had some Wednesday night and was dragging and congested Thursday morning/I had more for lunch yesterday and could barely stay awake during the afternoon.

I need to work harder on the bone broth for DS. I know HOW to make it and I've done some reading about it, but I NEVER have beef bones in the house other than leftover from the Christmas prime rib.... so I need to find a good source for the bones. I'll have to ask in the meat shop next time I'm shopping. I'll look into the book. I have a few family members who are really into nutrition so it could be floating around the family somewhere!

No problem with pumpkin. Have you ever heard of NAET? It's an acupuncture based allergy elimination protocol where they test you for different things, then you go thru the protocol addressing different groupings. I did it many years ago and eggs/chicken/feathers were at the top of the list. The program really helped, but it appears I've gradually slipped back to where things are bothering me again.

Never heard of it, but I will look into it. I talked to DS about acupuncture a few years ago, but the thought of needles stopped him dead in his tracks.

Official check-in ... still at 0%
I'll probably end the month higher than I started it. Oh well, I know it's entirely my fault, nothing I can do now to change everything I've done wrong over the past three weeks.

I'm sure you haven't done EVERYTHING wrong. You are still here with us, so your MIND is still in the right place!

Question of the Day - February 19

Let's Talk... Favorite Meals
Cooking provides us the opportunity to make delicious meals and control the calories that we take in.
Like Eve, I'm sure we all have great tools and gadgets in our kitchens that help us make yummy meals.
Today's topic is about your favorite meals you make at home - let's see some pictures and recipes!

What is your favorite go-to meal that doesn't bust your calorie goal?
Any special desserts?
If you burn water, what are some ready-made meals you eat in lieu of cooking?

How did I miss this yesterday??

Favorite go-to meal..... soups! I add lots of veggies for extra bulk and of course the broth/stock is 0 SP (as long as it is fat-free).... so I can get REALLY filled up for few calories/SP! And for those who are "cooking challenged", soups are pretty easy!

Last weekend I made a pot of chicken stock with the carcasses of some marked-down cold rotisserie chickens. I deboned the chicken meat itself and put it in the fridge. After I made the stock and cooled it and defatted it, I added celery, onions, peppers, and carrots. I did NOT add the chicken.... instead I added a measured portion of chicken to my bowl for each serving and then ladled the hot soup on top. That way I was able to more precisely count the SP in my soup AND be sure I got plenty of protein. And I could add MORE chicken to DH's portion to fill him up more. And now I have about two servings of the broth left, but no more chicken.... so today for lunch I will be ladling the hot broth over cooked white beans and chopped greens. I cannot wait!

Another low cal easy meal is my "change-it-up breakfast bowl"..... easy to make for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and totally customizable to your palate and your fridge contents! Find more info here....
WISH Away the Pounds--Healthy Recipe Thread (new title)

ANYTHING that can be thrown into the crockpot in the morning and served yummy and hot at dinner time would be a FAVORITE of mine!

Hmmmm.... desserts. I'm still tweaking my peanut butter mug cake recipe, so I cannot share it yet. The Yasso frozen yogurt bars are yummy (I like coconut the best).... but I'm definitely more of a salty/crunchy craver.

Ready made meals for me would be something like frozen veggie burgers (best in the skillet, but okay when microwaved), or a bowl of greek yogurt and frozen berries. If I am really desperate for a "ready-made meal" it would be a rotisserie chicken and steamed broccoli for DH and I and an all-natural frozen pizza for DS.

Great question!................P

WISH Away the Pounds--Healthy Recipe Thread (new title)

Thanks so much for the link to that thread! I've never seen it before and I'm excited to go through and find some new recipes. BTW, it sounds like you are a GREAT cook! I've got a lot to learn in that department, but you've given very detailed instructions, so hopefully I can at least attempt some of them.

It takes practice to get used to having something healthy and OP handy all the time. A healthy meal CAN look like an apple, a cheese stick, and a smoothie......... or pretzels, hummus, and a banana. Swap out those goldfish crackers for an apple and I think you would have felt differently about that "grab and go" lunch. So what are you doing this weekend to change things?

You are so right - an apple would have totally changed my opinion of my meal! This weekend I've got some plans made for food. Tonight is my mom's birthday dinner, so most of my calories will have to go towards that. I plan on having a salad and then a meal - hopefully the catch of the day will sound good to me. But barring that, I'm going to go with the sweet chili glazed salmon. There will be birthday cake, so I'm going to see if I can substitute the shrimp fried rice that comes with it with extra vegetables to keep the carb count down.

The rest of the week should be OK - nothing crazy on the horizon
