*Find my iPhone app* ---??

Definitely worth downloading. Not preinstalled, but when you set up a new iPhone, it is presented to download.

You can locate it, lock your iPhone, even wipe your iPhone if lost all remotely. iOS 8 introduced a new setting that will send/save the last location, but only if your battery is critically low, is either 20% or 10%

OP here.
This is my first iPhone (after 2 Droids, ugh!)

So where exactly is it located? When I do a search, several come up.

Sorry to be lame, lol, but I still don't get how to use it.

AND .... because of this post below, I don't want to ask my kids!! LOL :) :) :)

This hands down is my fave app. I have my whole family on and I can map them all out. I check it all the time to see where my kids are.

Love it!

:)

In the App Store, should be the very first one and will say Apple right underneath it. Looks like a green button.

I've got an older iphone myself and it has it preloaded.

I get to it by going to settings - privacy - location services. The last one listed is find my iphone. I can turn it on or off from there.

Excellent point. There is a setting to allow the phone to be located. The app allows you to find others

It used to be if you lost your phone (and or someone stole it) if it was turned off Find my IPhone would not work. With IOS 8 you can enable your phone to send its last location even if the phone is turned off. Go to settings.. Go to ICloud. ... find My Phone (make sure that is in the on position) ......Send Last Location. Turn this to the on position. I do believe you have to have IOS8. It will send a signal untill the battery goes dead. :thumbsup2

Ok, found it! Thanks!

Ok.... how does this app allow you to find others?

And I just had a thought. :rolleyes1 LOL

Didn't I hear something about this app in *reverse*, as in people being able to find you? As in people you don't want to find you??

Yikes! :confused3 Confused!!??

To find others in he Find My IPhone app, you will need their Apple Id and Password.

Only people that have your Apple ID and PW can find you in Find My IPhone App. I don't have Find my Friends app, but I think even with that app others need to accept your request to find them to start tracking them.

In addition to the above:

With iOS 8 they now have Family Share so if they are in your Family Share group and opt in (or as parent you opt them in) all their devices will show once logged into Find My Phone. Also in the Fanily share there is an option to share your location with the members in your group under "details" when you are in messages. That is handy because you do not have to log in to see it, however it's not as accurate as Find My Phone.

Or, you can all simply use the same iCloud ID but that creates a whole host of issues you really don't want.
