I like it the way it is. I think the more seperate boards you develop, the harder it gets to find what you are looking for. Even though I read this board mainly for the personal finance threads, I also come across other interesting threads that I would otherwise not have seen - like the Coke Olympics contest that I've won 50 bottles from so far! It's nice to have everything money-related in one place.

Even so.... It has become very hard to get answers or ask Disney budget questions here. It has become a Financial Planning board instead. Financial Planning ISN'T FUN and IT GIVES ME A HEADACHE!!

Get back to the Orginal Topic - Disney Budget - how to save for disney and save while on you disney trip.

Don't split. Or at least don't split along Disney/Personal Finance lines. I could see an Ebay subforum, but other than that, I just don't see how a Disney-only board could be viable or well-defined.

Check out the poster just before me--they want a board with "How to save for Disney" and for trip savings. Saving money is the same whether it's for Disney or for a house or car. The same info could easily apply in the context of both Disney and Personal Finance. How is the line drawn?

I went thru the last 100 threads and divided them according to their topics. Here's the results that I got:

• Disney Topics: 48
• Coupons, Codes, and Bargain Finds: 22
• Finance-related: 15
• eBay: 7
• Misc. & OT threads: 8

So, it appears that Disney is still the primary focus of this board by a wide margin. Finance-related threads are not even the second-most popular subjects and eBay is far behind.

When I first started lurking years ago, I remember this board being such a great place for saving for my Disney vacation! It was a great place to share all the money saving/optimizing idea board. One stop shopping for all the $$$ heads up on best rates, airfare, car rentals, tickets, meals, making the most of the magic for the mighty dollar.

I don't remember dream breaking, only dream making.

Yeah, I understand then when someone posts about the dream cruise ship while they are barely treading water - someone may need 'save' them from drowning - but sometimes in order to keep treading water they need to hold onto a goal or dream.

I love the fact that I can get more bang for my buck, magic for my money, or plan the ultimate 'on the cheap' trip without having to wade through the other boards for deals.

I voted leave it as is.

I personally am all "frugalled out" and "budgeted out," too, and like reading a variety of budget and financial subjects, Disney-related or not. I would not be inclined to visit 2 different boards if the board would split into 2 different one's.

While there are more personal finance threads than usual on the board right at this moment, it appears from akamad4themouse's count that you'd need to wade through the Disney and Coupon Code threads to find the personal finance threads.....

They are outpacing the personal finance threads by a count of 70 to 15. It's okay for folks to say that they don't like the personal finance threads here *at all*, and I think there are obviously folks who don't want to read about it at all. But the idea that folks are having to "wade through them" to get to the Disney related threads doesn't seem to be a solid argument to split the board.

For those that don't enjoy those threads, 99% of them are clearly marked, why not just skip them?

I first found the boards when I was planning a WDW trip years ago. I do believe the buget board was more Disney trip related then - but that was back when they offered room codes pretty regularly. Have not seen those for some time.
It does seem like whenever there is a promo for WDW you can find plenty of info on it here.

I think it would be tough to split it up. I'm not planning a trip right now - but love coming here for money saving ideas, coupon codes etc.
It's easy enough to scroll past the posts that don't interest me.

For example: we don't drink soda, so I've just skipped over the Coke thread. Of course now I know people are winning 50 free bottles of the stuff - what a deal - almost enough to make me start drinking the rot-gut again.

Although I'm in favor of leaving things as is, I feel like saying just split it up so that we can stop having this debate every 2 weeks

If it does get split, I know I won't be a frequent visitor of the Disney Budget board. I think board members here do a nice job answering the same questions over and over and over...if that's all one board was about, how many people will have the patience to go there just to do that?
